I, for one , would sure like to see a Futaba 9 channel 2.4 GHz.
There has been conflicting info from Hobbico on this topic. I was told by a rep from Hobbico that there will be NO 9 Channel 2.4 Ghz. Then I was told by a sponsored Pilot that there will be. I wish I could know for sure because I sure don't need 12 channels or want to spend $1200 for a new Tx. Magoo

There will be 2.4 FASST modules and receivers for the current and previous 9C's that are in use. There are no firm dates for arrival yet, as we have not heard specifics from Futaba as when they'll be shipping.

Since Spektrum DX7 with 4 servos included is ~$350 , I wager/hope futaba module will be about the same price or a lot less. Futaba knows (duh!!) that if they don't satisfy customer needs, more people will switch to Spektrum, Hitec or worse, JR.
Spread spectrum to me is not an option, it's a necessity. If Futaba don't offer the module very soon or it's priced exorbitantly, I for one will switch. I know alot has switched and more to follow. 72 Mhz & the likes will be for reserved for people who has not witnessed or experienced radio related mishaps, these as far as I can tell, are a dying breed. that's my 2 cents

Has anyone heard anything about the latency of the 8 channel 2.4 ghz receivers vs. the 14 channel versions? Thought I had read somewhere on the net that there could be a difference in speed between the two. I certainly hope that's not the case as I'm sure many people who own multiple aircraft would like the cheaper receivers with less channels than the 14, while still benefiting from the low latency. Granted, this would only be with the 12Z, 12FG or 14Z as I know the 9 series radios will have the same latency they have now on the 72 band.

I use to preach the merits of 2.4ghz when i first got my DX-7. Since then, I've lost 1 plane and my friend has lost 2 from lock-outs. I've been using my 14mz on 72mhz exclusively and will continue to do so until the 2.4 bugs are ironed out. I've seen more planes lost on Spektrum than I have seen from channel conflicts.

I've been saying this all along. I can't understand why everyone is jumping with glee and buying this 2.4Ghz stuff.
What's wrong with the 72Mhz we've been flying? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. |

I've been flying the 6EX with two receivers for three months now and have had no problem. Granted, I am flying small electrics, but I have not had the first glitch or lockout. I've bought two more receivers and will install one in something larger so I can really test them out. It may be a while before I try them in a large scale plane.
I'm not one to quickly embrace bleeding edge technology. So far, however, I've been impressed with the Futaba FASST. Cautiously optimistic.

Not that anyone who chooses to stick with what has worked for them is in the wrong, but analog servos had worked well for several years, for example, then digtal coreless servos were unveiled and changed the hobby significantly. Same can be said for nimh's to li-ions, dope & fabric to monokote, Ambroid to super glue, etc. I, for one, am one of those guys that will sell my DA 100 if they ever come out with a 112 that weighs the same but produces more power, even if it is only 100 RPM...there are lots of guys like me, I am sure...
