Default Ultracote over ultracote, how?

Im covering an airplane and need some help. I am trying to apply stripes of different widths over ultracote. The color is sky blue and I havent found any striping tape that matches. I tried trim solvent and low heat irons, but is very difficult and still bubbles. Windex did not work either. Any tricks you guys may know would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Could you cut your own stripes using a Great Planes stripe cutter? I've had excellent results doing this.

why not a monokote wood pecker over the area before you lay the second color down.

I guess you're trying to put some stripes on top of open structure, between ribs, lightening holes in the fuse etc? Best way I've found is to use trim solvent. Only use around 5 drops in a quarter cup of water. If you use it straight, you better be happy with where you set it! Use the thinned solvent, set it where you want and squeege. Then just don't touch it for 12 hours or so. Same deal on solid surface just 100 times easier.

What temp are you using. Around 225 F with a sock works very well. Go Slow.

trim solvent is definitely the way to go. recently covered my carden without solvent and just went really low temp and REALLY slow and it worked well, but like biff said, if your going over an open structure solvent is the way to go.

Good luck,

Just did that. As stated above, iron at 220-225. Over sheeting it's easy, over open areas harder. Got some bubbles just prick with very sharp pin and go over with iron again.

I use soapy water and squegee the covering on. Then I go over it with a real low temp. Let it sit for a day until it's dry then go over with a hot iron. works everytime

I tried the 5 drops in 1/4 cup water but I could not get it to mix very well. after applying and setting a test piece, The next day it just pealed off. Am I doing something wrong???

yes, that only works with monocote.. or coverings with a smooth adhesive.. the textured adhesive on ultra keeps that from working but it also lets you just use low heat and it helps let the air out..
