(2) HS-5985's per Wing (1) HS-5955 per Elevator half (2) HS-5955's on Rudder (1) HS-5965 on Throttle I see that the HS-5985's a have a Karbonite Gear, any field issues to report? Any Big Servo SALE's going on that we should know about? regards, Ward |

try troybuiltmodels.com
they usually have good prices on servo's and I think if you sign up for their email letter you get slightly better prices. getting 5955's for $95 is pretty nice there too. |

Just my opinion but I would not use any Karbonite gear servos. I had some I was going to use and read alot about them that they can not handle the vibration of gas planes. Also if you use locktite on the servo arm screw this will deteriorate the karbonite and it will become brittle and break. You might do a search or go to the hitec support forum on rcuniverse and read about these before using them. I used mine on the throtle and choke instead of surfaces.

I'm planning on using 5955TG's all round (except throttle) on my new 35%.

Almost any servo with metalgear have a carbonite/nylon gear in it, normally first gear train in the servo are not metal, there is no problem at that stage in the gearbox.

NO........the 5985's have a METAL GEAR........they are great servo's! I wouldn't install any Karbonite gears on a 35% either , but the 5985's are metal. I was going with the exact same set up on my sukoi as well. The pair of 5985's on each wing should be way more than efficeint i beleive.

Hi Jeff
Have a look at this link: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXMYJ5&P=X You'll notice that the first gear in the train are carbonite, but the torque that's going into the first gear are very small so no fear about this. Second will a metal gear in first stage be able to make electrical noise. It is not only Hitec have a look at Futaba:http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXCSW8&P=X brgds Joen |

ALL servos have at least one soft gear in them

Hey guys,
Note that the inner gear on the first gear in the Hitec servos is metal. We call this an M/K gear (metal/karbonite.) In the past, we had an M/P gear which was metal/plastic (nylon,) but went to the M/K gear with the titanium geared servos for a little extra strength (not that we ever broke the M/P gears.) We now use it in all the high end metal geared servos. We have never had one break in normal conditions so there is no need to worry, it will not strip. FYI: Hitec was the first to have this hybrid first gear and some others have now adopted it, but some still use an all nylon first gear. The reasoning behind this is that there needs to be a buffer between the motor and the metal gear train. We tried all metal in the past but when the lube wore off there was RF noise which caused occational glitches. I hope this helps clear things up. ![]() Mike Mayberry Hitec RCD USA. |

Any time in the future is a broad statement... so I'd say yes then.
![]() What if I said we would have a line of high power Ti geared servos that ranged from ultra speed to ultra torque and would run on an unregulated 2 cell Lipo/Li-Io? Is this something that sounds appealing? Mike. |
