Feel free......
I used no velro to hold any electronic componets in except my ignition kill. Everything is ziptie. Also every electronic has foam underneath it. That blue foam is actually a pool noodle. I'm only using that as a spacer for airflow to help cool the regs. The other components have black 1/2 foam under them. As for the setup vs. vibration. I guess I could have put everything on a bungee and let if free float and bounce around (at least there wouldn't be vibration ). I was never a fan of wrap it in foam in my .40size planes and never have done that. I've never done that with any electronics. This setup has flown for over 1 yr with no radio problems. The only time major vibration happens in my planes is at idle with no wings. I believe if you tighten down the airframe good the the vibration is spread throughout and ground vibration is much different than in flight. I keep my ground running time to a min. But thanks for the critique. If you have a better way to hold things down please share, I may be willing to try.

While I am happy for all those who managed to get to Torledo etc this does nothing but inflame everybody else. I am in OZ and have no chance of getting one for my JR, we will be the last to get it and we still do not know if Jim has got things squared away with the authorities here.
I think Jim needs to get things rolling a bit quicker and at least tell us whats happening. I have posted in several forums regarding if things will be OKed for over here but no direct answer. |

Sorry to inflame you clive-- I didn't make it there either. I had a friend who was going and offered to buy one for me. He even went back Saturday in hopes there would be more after friday they sold out.
Jim is saying that sometime this week sales will start up again. I'm not privy to your problems down under though, but I hope they work out for you guys also!

Again, for the third time, I was NOT specifically criticizing you. Sorry you chose to take it this way. As far as my installations go, I try to use as much foam as possible. I really liked the one I saw Bill Hemple use where he suspended the radio using rubber bands.

Tbere's no point in even bothering with the foam if you're going to wrap a zip-tie around it.
Don't you remember your 4-sized profile days? Zip tie a fuel tank to the fuselage (even with foam under it) and you'll get massive foaming. Use a rubber band and look -- not a bubble in sight. The Zip tie will transfer the vibration despite the foam. It should be remembered that even the most modern receivers still have fragile crystals and other components in the that *DO NOT* like vibration. |

anything mounted to foam with a zip tie will experience exagerated vibration.I like to use velcro straps. Also I have used just velcro squares to mate the rx to the surface under the rx thats the best anti vibration, espeshialy if you fly a real vibrater.
I hate vibraters....fg57 |

When I tried to install my new XPS-F1 module in my Futaba 9Z I could not just unscrew my antenna and remove it so I emailed teck support. I was very pleased how fast they got back to me as they must have just got home from Toledo. I was told [Just do not extend Antenna] all told I have TWO positive experiences 1-Great tech support and 2-Module exchange is easy

Interesting. Jim has always maintained the antenna must be removed for proper operation.

Oh I didn't take any offense. No worries. I was serious if you had a better way to do it let me know. I've seen the bungee install on a Comp Arf before....but thought that though there may be less vibration the bouncing up and down/side to side would be worse for my connections. Again though.....I've never been a fan of WRAP with foam.

Also just caught the other posts.
Rubberbands don't work in Vegas......at 115 degree temps (that's in the shade) the rubber bands weaken way to fast. I can't keep replacing them every day. I use fuel tubing on the ziptie to help pad the tie. I still have to replace those every 3-4 months though because they become brittle also. Big note here though is this......this plane flew for over a year with no radio problems in the current setup with a 955s crystal RX. Its exactly the same setup with the XPS rx. To me that's a perfect test
