It looks like 6.5 inches on mine. What do you have in mind? I have to agreee the plane is a lot tougher then I thought initially. A Moki 2.1 runs in the 120's on the race course and stands the turns just fine that doesn't men it will withstand full throtle blenders but it is a legitiamate fun to fly pylon racers. For the record I have doen a dozen rolls and a few loops with mine in 50 plus flights. My Sundowner has been sold to a team mate who flew it to first place in the gold last year at Parker AZ so I am installing his Moki in it for our race in Ashtabula Ohio in two weeks,

I was wondering if the RARC 33% helmet or full face pilot would fit in this tight cockpit. The helmet head that is included in the box really is one of the better looking ones IMO - but some folks always will want different.
I see now from closer inspection the turtledeck forms well forward of the seat back. It does appear as if only a head (and no torso) would ever work. So the full fuse width really was the wrong dimension to request.
Our helmet; head only- is 3" wide and 4" high. (Full face is 4 3/8" high with visor and nut) This 33% may prove be way too large all the same for ths 25%er, tho most planes look better with a larger pilot -inspite of the actual scale relationship.

The head provided wiggles enough with the Moki in the plane to touch both sides of the canopy.
You can see the rub marks were it touches. Bigger will not fit. I bet I saved you at least $50 on that.
Good luck and get out and fly.

Hi Everyone,

I’m assembling my Sundowner at the the mo and reading through looks like my trusty Moki 210, Perry blue pump and using a 17 x 12 APC will be a good start.

I’ll flying for fun; no competitions over here and wanted to ask …the control surfaces are a little smaller than what am used to though guess they will have good effect at speed, are the manufactures recommended throws good, the lighter hollow tail tubes plenty strong enough, and servo’s any one recommend the oz/kg required using a regulated lipo at 5.1v?

The hollow tail-tubes are strong enough, but you may need the solid steel ones for balancing the Moki. Only you can determine that. Most any high-quality "normal" sized servos that have 70 oz. in. or better will work fine. I used Hitec HS625MG servos...

Mine was set up for racing and on mine I used the hollow tubes and put the battery in the back on the rear hatch. No pump, muffler pressure only from a Brisson muffler. Start rich and watch it come up to speed as it leans out. Any of the std size digital JR servos should work. The CG should be a little fwd of the book value at the beginning and use a broken in engine, dead sticks can be difficult it must glide fast. An additional cooling hole will most likely be needed on the bottom of the cowl, behind the cly. Leseirf might be able to post a picture of his for you.
Good luck!

I was at the URSA Pylon race yesterday, near Astibula Ohio. This was the first time to a race like this. I been wanting to go for several years. Now I know what I was missing. The Sundowner race plane looks like a lot of fun. If I was not 65 years young....I would try it for sure. If you like speed and can fly smooth...this is what you want to try at least try once. Best Regards Capt,n

Captn John,
I was flying the Unlimited Stiletto with the Colts Logo on the Blue Moon Racing Team. I sure wish you would have identified yourself. It would have been good to show you our stuff. One of the racers on our Team is 65 so I am not buying your excuse. I could have shown you my Sundowner that I brought along but did not race.

Hellow Sparky: I went out last nite and tried a test pylon turn. I threw the aiplane into a knife edge (at make believe pylon) and then a lot of up elevator to turn a 180 turn. The hard part was leveling the plane smoothly out of the turn. I did get a little better after 6-7 tries!!! That was fun. I wish I could have stayed for the awards that was give out... but the wife wanted to get back home to west Mich. I sure like the races and people I did talk too. I am planing to get a group together next year to share driving expense to be there again! Best Regards Capt,n

REPLY: I wish I would have had time to talk with you at the USRA race. My wife and I were only there the last day. What are the numbers on the airplanes that was flown by the Blue Moon Racing Team? I got a video of some of the races, but have not watched all of it yet. I have been to busy painting the Sun room...ect. Maybe if I can pause the video and get a clear frame...I can identify one of them. How good did the Saito powered racers do....the engines sure sound good. As far as me ever competing...I started flying RC in 1974 and over the years other RC,ers would ask me to go and compete....but I never cared too. The enjoyment is more to me in helping others and working on engines. I do like to watch good flying for sure! Best Regards Capt,n Hesperia Mi

Well the Unlimited was 35
we had three polecats the really ratty one was 14a then white with an eagle airbrushed on the top was 33 and then a yellow one with the airbrush eagle on top and i think it was 34 but I don't remember for sure.
I don't think the saito 1.80 guys had their engines sorted out so it is hard to judge for sure. It looks like the Moki 2.1 is the easiest and best setup. for right now

I agree the Moki 2 cycle is a top notch engine. I wonder if they in time might have a class for the 2 cycle engines and another class for the 4 strokes? As you can tell...I do not know much about how the rulles are set up! I will post a photo I took at the Ashtabula Pylon races. Best Regards capt,n How do I post photos from Picasa??? Thanks Capt,n

Guys am stuck with the APC 17 x 12 pulling 120 mph, according to Pe Reivers prop power calculator the Moki would have to spin up to nearly 11000 rpm to pull 120 mph, is the Moki 210 happy enough pulling these kinda rpms?
