Right on.
My first one had the Evo 35 gasser and I had all the packs in the rear hatch with the steel tube to get it to hang right. Even with this, I can't help but feel I was still off on the CG. When it crashed, it snapped really hard. I didn't learn about the CG demon until later. (NOTE TO SELF: READ MORE FORUMS!!) What muffler are you running with the Moki? What onboard glow driver do you recommend? |

Yep...all fueled up and ready to go...
I have one steel rod (the long one) and one alum. tube for the stab. attachment. Got the battery just behind the wing tube...it's just an 1100 NiCd 4 cell pack so it's not all that heavy, but I suppose I could move it back to the hatch area and that might let me swap the steel rod for the other alum tube...might knock off that "extra" quarter lb.? I'm using the std. Bisson Pitts style muffler (not the special one made for the Sundowner) because a friend had one (got it cheap) and I didn't feel like spending 80 bucks for the Sundowner spec. one. I did however cut the tips off the 2 outlet pipes. No on board glow, but I am considering a Perry V-30 pump. |

Perry pump?
Might I offer this up. Consider the Jett tank perhaps. They sound like more work to fill up but from what I've read they are dead nuts reliable when all the steps are followed. Gets rid of fuel foaming, contamination, etc which seems to be more of an issue with high speed, high G load planes. Dunno for sure, but it was a good pitch so I ordered one along with my Jett60 for my little SD50 that I've got to build. I'm sure the Perry pump will more than suffice, but weight is weight right? |

True about the weight...
I've been thinking about using a smaller tank anyway...I usually fly for 6-7 min. and land w/ half a tank because it starts to go a little lean. (even when I start out quite rich) With half a tank remaining, it still has a tendancy to nose over after landing. Tried starting w/ less fuel, but the tendancy to go lean worsens. If they make a 12oz. bubbless tank, I'll try one...or maybe I can make one? I have a box of baby bottle liners, but don't remember how many oz. they hold? (doubt it's more than about 8 though...I'll haveta check) |

The USRA GS guys and smaller racer guys I've talked to/read about mentioned something about ensuring the exit port of the fuel tank is on the same horizontal plane as the carb fuel inlet and that the line is as short as possible. I forget the exact reasons, but I remember something about lean conditions being mentioned. I also recall something about fuel line size being important. Not going too big I think. Might be worth a try. Good luck. |

Love this plane, flew ‘just right’ made me smile straight out the box, I had considered the horror stories ref the landing and also watched the Hanger 9 demo video where lol it appears to fall out the sky at about 40mph. No probs here though it’s very easy to fly tracks on rails and the landings just need to be approached that bit further out, I just slow it down and when its drops pull it back with the engine; x-winds don’t worry it none and were lucky at our patch cos its six acre square, all grass, and the diagonal runway is the one I often opt to use.
Imho, keeping the tank/close level wont help much, the large i.d. bore fuel lines are essential, just tbo you will have no chance keeping your Moki fuelled without a pump, if you don’t want to fit a pump a small e.g 2oz header tank side on to the engine will offer some benefit. These engines need fuel in abundance, they don’t pump/suck didly squat especially on full tilt and wont stand a lean run at high rpm’s for long! They can burn out real quick! With respect to the cline reg I reckon it favours the smaller engines, its good; just in my experience it’s not up to the thirst of the Moki. I hate the weight difference flying from full to empty so my tank is nearer the wing tube, mine comes in at 66mm or just over 2-1/2" Am doing the 50 with the jet engine next .. ![]() http://jettengineering.com/sundowner.html |

FWIW we fly our Moki Sundowner on straight muffler pressure (bisson pitts style) with no issues at all using the stock 24oz tank and large fuel line. Same setup we used successfully in the Dominator for years.

Not a giant, but what the hell:
Here's my little 50 size: Jett60 powered with a pull/pull rudder, internal elevator set up and a rudder gyro (experiment for take offs and no longer used) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I had a pery pump on a os 120 AX and It pumped wayyyy tooo much fuel for my engine.... had to take it out...
I would use one of those and you shouldn't ever have any problems with fuel supply issues. |

GGROYAL, I don't see your cooling exit holes? Be sure it is large. We have been adding an exit on the bottom of the cheek just behind the engine. We are running YS 170s with no cooling issues.
Also, we have found that taping over the left cowl inlet helps direct the colling air where it is needed. |
