The Sundowner champion last year was running a Saito 180 so I think it has potential. Augie tried a lot of props but I don't know what he ended up with.
As far as the YS 170, it finished third at it's debut with a pilot that had no racing experience against a guy with years of racing experience. ![]() It was a shame that the rains came as there was an ace up their sleeves that never got to be used. The jury is still out on the YS. |

I just read that link about the Evolution 26cc.....
A very good read.... I however, do not understand the issue with the ignition.... The stock ignition has the option to use the "TUNED" pipe program..... ONe would think that would give you enough gains??? I also know "From experience" that advancing the timing also gives the engine less low rpm idling properties, as well as a moreruff, vibrating engine.... Also, one can use LIPO's that are much lighter than most if not ALL 4.6-6 volt NICD/NMH batteries!.. I guess one can take from it what he feels valuable...... Again.... Great info..... But I also know that if one want's even more power, you can go in and do some port grinding on that sleeve and crank shaft (just like a rc car engine) But once you do that, you permently alter the timing (which gives you very little options to going back if things don't work out!!) I think it is a Great engine for racing sundowners, but they would need to allow for some rule changes to make things more exciting and let guys do some "tunning" to there engines.... |

I have the Sundowner with the Moki 2.10 with the Brisson Pitts muffler.. I am running FAI, K & B plug with the apc 17 x12 prop. I am setting the engine down about 800 to 1000 from peak. The engine is running hot. Most of the time the engine will stop about 6 mins into the flight. What can I do different? I have not made any mods to the cowl. Should I start there?

Was it the speed or something else that caused the failure in El Mirage?

i used a 16x14 on a saito 220 30% heli last year. i used a garmin 60csx almost 6oz and it came back reading 146mph.
there was no diving just flying fast. it was about 7500 on the ground. this year i tried a 16x13 and holy cow what a difference no gps but if i had to guess at least 10-15mph faster. rpm on the ground was 9500rpm. the question i have could i show up to a race with this set up and be aloud to use the 220 saito? thanks. the engine has a bit more in it, as last i checked the lash about .005 on in take and .003 on the exhaust. the sloppy lash helps it to idle with the small props. but it still eats paint rollers on start

I was jut wondering if anyone thought about using the new DLE30 engine in a Sundowner or any Pylon racer. It has a amazing power for a 30cc engine. Thanks Capt,n

Has anyone changed their wheel pants? The ones that came with the plane look too big. The Evolution 26 is broken-in and it is starting to pick up speed. Still have to find the right prop.
