XPS needs a switch to instantly increase the power to 1300Watts - that will show them !

Reminds me of when I was a kid and we took apart microwave over with a satellite dish and scared the s**t out of pigeons....

Or it might denote the way the competitors describe the range of their units (I went to the Spektrum site and watched a FAQ vid and read a few pages, but must have missed where they defined the range. I'm sure it's someplace simple, I just missed it).

Judge,
I agree with you that Jim has an unorthodox (sometimes abrasive) way of marketing. However, I take the quotes in his chart to mean that he is referencing their claim of range, and has not verified it himself. Not an uncommon way of referencing such things, and I don't see the negative connotation in this.

Time will tell if there really is a difference in the performance of the new 2.4 products. But do you really expect anyone to market by saying that they are just about the same as everyone else?

If someone walks in front of you the system should be looking to change channel etc and by the time it has decided that it needs to go into failsafe the person would have gone and signal restored. If you are stupid enough to let some one stand in front of you when your flying you deserve to crash. As far as I have seen down under no one should be on the runway without checking if low flying aircraft are there (landing, low pass or aerobatics)
If someone stood in front of me I would kick him in the butt.
I think everybody is waiting for someone or Jim to give a gold plated guarantee that they will not crash with the XPS system. Be real, like all electronics it will fail for various reasons even if you do all the right things.
We fly different radio systems (JR,Futaba etc) because we like the feel or options and maybe price. 2.4 is no different, choose what you feel happy with, don't try to make the system fit you.
Well I have had more than my 2JR,FutabaI will sit back and see what people think at the same time as I read post while I decide what 2.4 system I will buy.

yea clive45

Even i am thinking the same, i thought that the 2.4 are very reliable but after hearing so many things about it i am quite scared about it, these manufacturers must have done lot of R& D before they launched the systems.

What i am thinking is people may not be following proper manufacturers installation guide lines of these radio equipment... OR may be trying to show one brand better than the other.

Well there is bound to be a lot of brand bashing for sure, as well as horro stories of system failure on 2.4GHz.

To be honest, the only advantage I see in going 2.4GHz is that you reduce (not eliminate, as there are other 2.4GHz equipment that could affect us) the chances of being shot down by someone on the same frequency.

As for reliability, RF link quality, etc, I don't think that the average flier like myself will feel a difference. I am not knocking 2.4, as I am definitely getting it as well, but just looking at it from a realistic point of view.

clive45 makes a good point, its just another new toy for us to play with if we want

Regarding the claim of XPS that the range is 5 miles. It was apparently proven and given in a thread early in 2007.

Jim hooked up a GPS system to track the flight, and it allowed him to fly 5 miles out and back. He was going to package the thing, but I understand Homeland Security said t was a no-no. For obvious reasons.

This may be just an urban ledgend, but I did read it early last year.
