Hi Jack..
I have a crashed Brison 5.8 here, will try the long bolt thing...The Brison is a real one, green anodized crankcase, Sachs crank and cylinder, SDC80 carb, steel 6 bolt prop hub....
We found soft mounts on 58s would shake the muffler apart....
A&M made some 11.7 twins...Used their own crank for the front half, the Sachs on the rear...Bad move, the front would break off....Fixed one by turning the crank around, put the Sachs part in front...Worked well...

I had one of the last 3.2 engines that Gary built, it was one of the best running engines I have ever had, actually I wish now that I still had it. Honestly I never ever had to touch it from day one, it always started easy and ran like a sowing machine and had very good power, ran it on Amsoil as recommended by Brison. I have to say they are great engines.

Jack, the Taurus 3.2 is a very smooth running engine. Much smoother than many cantilever crank engines I have experience with.

That green 5.8, is a Brison. Gary built quite a few of them.

Those people are factory engineers, they run "factory" settings

Hey Guys, I thought I would chime in here kinda.

I just aquired and old Carden El Bandito with a "Sachs" engine. i was told it was in the 65+cc range. How would I go about verifying the specifics on this engine? Anything specific to look for?

Below is a picture of the exact airplane that i purchased. What I can say is it pulls this plane around very nicely with a 96" wingspan.

Any info would be helpful.

Added it also has electronic ignition as well. From the looks of it, I would assume its the 72cc version, spinning the 24*8 3W prop mounted to it. I am looking for any type of stamp on the crankcase that would verify.

Any idea's?

Once you have the numbers off the base of the cylinder Ralph will likely have an answer.

Ralph,

Thos guys in the vid--no way were they factory engineers. They never do hands on. Must have been tech reps....

Google Dolmette..
Look at the base of the cylinder..The numbers cast into the base will tell the size...47ZN is a 3.7, 49ZN is a 4.2.....The 5.2 and 5.8 tapped exhaust holes are not parallel to the fins...The 5.2 cylinder is a Mahle, the 5.8 is a Kolbenschmidt....4.2, 5.2, and 5.8 will probably have a Walbro SDC80 carb...The 5.2 runs about like the 5.8, but smoother....

Thanks for the info!. Yes, the cast numbers are 49ZN and I now know its a 4.2ci engine. I beleive this is eqivlent to 69cc's

I have read about these engines, and this doesnt have the "orage" crankcase, so I assume it isnt a chainsaw engine.

How could I verify the actual prod date, and maker of the engine?

How does this engine compare to other 50cc engines. DA, DL, 3W. Etc?

Many companies have used Sachs 49ZN cylinders...There is no way to tell the date...
Look at the con rod...A copper colored rod is a Sachs, a silver color is A&M...Both work, the A&M is not so good...
If the bottom case bolts are parallel to the top it's a Walker engine, it WILL have a Sachs crank...
A Sachs 4.2 cylinder engine is stronger than any 50 class engine...
The original color was orange...If the case is anodized red it's a Precision Eagle....All Sachs parts...
A Sachs crank will have the production date etched into the crank web...All Sachs crank engines are older, Sachs was sold to Makita years ago...An old Sachs crank in good shape is as good or better than any modern crank.....

I'm thinking Ralp has worked on a few of these engines!
