Haven't run one in years....Mine was part of a scam...Someone had 2 "new" chainsaw engines for sale...A customer and I bought both, he sent his to me for conversion...BOTH engines had brand new cylinders, pistons, and carbs...BOTH had worn out cranks...Someone slipped bad cranks in otherwise new engines...I converted his using the better of the two cranks, haven't heard how it worked out...
Pretty clever, the cases were not cleaned up from the saw, both had flywheel ignitions, and looked like new...Live and learn....Mine is still in a box, someday a good crank will show up..Maybe..

Hi Ralph , I have a sachs engine with the # 45zn5 on the case I would like to send to you so you can go over for me. I dont want it converted to electronic ignition just up grade the Mag ignition it has and get it running like a top.
One more thing what size is this engine and could I use to fly the Meister 102 inch Me 109 that would be about 25 to 30 pounds. Or maybe a better question, would it have the power output of a G62 because that is usually the engine used to fly them. Last edited by 91zulu; 01-21-2010 at 11:42 AM. Reason: spelling |

Should be pretty close, it's a 3.2...Don't look for unlimited vertical, it should have about 28 lbs thrust...

One thing that helped the "purpose built" aicraft motors come to the forfront over the Sachs-Dolmar conversions was that Sachs didn't want to have anything to do with models. When Walker started out he was buying chainsaw powerheads and trimming them down. When word got out about his conversions and orders started picking up the factory rep called and asked why with the logging business was going so good here and was on the decline everywhere else. When he told them he was making model airplane engines out of them.. Poof they wouldn't sell him anymore powerheads. That necessitated making al cases and crankshafts as it became a cat and mouse game to get the parts. If Sachs-Dolmar would have been supportive of the model industry DA and 3W would probably not have gained the market share away from the conversions. I still have a couple of his first conversions laying around. #4 w/the chainsaw case trimmed down and rattle canned silver is a good a running motor as I have ever had. It is as strong as any 50cc class motor out there.

Close but no cigar...You might want to check your "facts" with Carlos Gregada, he worked for Walker assembling the engines...When Walker quit the engines were made by Don and Carla Kanak, called Precision Eaglets...
Only rattle canned Sachs conversions I can remember were made by someone back East before and about the same time as A&M...They used the Sachs magnetos...All A&M and Walkers used C&H and just before A&M went out they cloned the C&H ignition and called it theirs...It wasn't a very good clone...If you ever saw one it didn't have the Bosch cap, the shield came all the way down over the hex on the plug and used a hose clamp to hold it on.... FWIW, some Sachs engineers DID make a few airplane engines, I think 35 and 45cc...They were expensive.. The engineers like to find other uses for their engines...Google Dolmette motorcycle...

I known Carlos for most of my life. He comes by the model field on occasion but spends most of his time now playing with ultralights. I got my second gas motor from Walker himself a long time ago. Must have been early 80's. It has Walker ser #004 engraved on the aluminum plate mount, a CH ignition and the mechanical advance. Case is pure chainsaw- all trimmed up and rattlecanned silver. It wasn't the engineering group that shut down the sales of the powerheads- it was the lawyers..
