FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND JOE NALL WAS A FRIEND OF MR. HARTNESS WHO SPONSORS THE EVENT HE WAS KILLED IN A PLANE CRASH AND MR HARTNESS DOES THE EVENT EVERY YEAR IN HIS HONOR. IM SURE THERES A WHOLE LOT MORE TO THE STORY BUT IM NOT SURE EXACTLY WHAT IT IS. THE REAL PERSON TO ASK WOULD BE BIFF HE TELLS A GREAT STORY AND HE KNOWS EXACTLY HOW THE NALL WAS STARTED. HOPE THIS HELPS

The Joe Nall was started in 1982. It was an event that was for 1/4 scale models. Pat Hartness and Kirby McKinney wanted to start a meet and have their friends come and enjoy flying together. Joe Nall was Pat's college roomate and they were great friends. Joe was the announcer for this event. Joe was killed in an air plane crash in 1989 and the name was changed to honnor Joe Nall in 1990.

See ya'll at the Joe Nall.

Mr. Joe Nall was actually from Smithfield, North Carolina, that is about 10 miles from my house, I just found that out last week, and I have been going to the flying for the last five years,,

Actually Mr. Nall was born and raised in Atlanta Ga. He went to Furman University in Greenville SC where I suspect he met Mr Pat Hartness. He then attended Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest NC, and finally Wake Forest School of Law, Wake Forest, NC. From there he started his law practice in Smithfield, NC and operated that office from 1981 to 1986. In 1986 he joined the NTSB team and moved to Washington DC. He was killed in a plane crash in Caracas, Venezuela on November 27, 1989.
