My 36%Katana is down. I was on the books for the Sun N fun and others in Fl.
replacement of 8 worn out hitec 5945BB MG metal gear..digital servos... aparently they did not use a brass bushing in there secondary gear shaft off the primary bearing out put drive..just a steel shaft in plastic housing..(that wallowed out)I see they now use Brass bushings in there new servos ..oh well I wonder if they stand behind what they sell.???. Metal gear Strength doesnt do much good in a plastic housing......... I bought several of there 1st RCD RXs almost 20 years ago..ALL good -along with $1000s of other Hitec products,,Also Eclipse,Optics and many other of there fine Equip...but im a bit disapointed spending close to $1000 in programable servos that only lasted less than a couple years. I did program all serovs too there programing computer. Do you think they should replace servos for good P.R. work?? Im a happy camper******* My experience was also incountered by other florida pilots of a club that houses 300 pilots! IF needed for clear explanation can post pics of interior servos close ups and other Top pilots who experienced the same problem.... Feel free to pass on your M.G . servos questions on this post only please............Your Hitec MG Experience Again im a happy camper... should I pay for stock housings out of my pocket ?... A close friened who does the building reviews for RCuniverse suggested for me to buy new cases.only to happen again.?? Guess If I did get any .. being paid for or not..there modifed new housing with a brass bushing seems the way to fix the defect.. Ultimately the best thing would for me to send all servos in and see if they would make Good w/. undefective ones. Sincerly AirshowPaul AMA 217111 IMA26116 Pilot licence XXX-XX-1161 |

They never gave me a free case when the plastic wore out. They were more than kind enough to charge me bout 30 bucks for repair tho.
Hitec should offer a good repair/fix for this problem. Maybe a case top with the BRASS bushing. FWB

This is Interesting....
I have just replaced the gears in all 6 of my 5945's after well over 350 flights in my 35% Extra 260! The plane is not treated kindly in flight Not one of the top case shaft holes were loose or enlarged. |

Yes, they’ve been superseded by the 5985; however, I’ve had over 2 dozen 5945’s and never had a problem with one of them. ALL metal gear servos will develop some wear/gear slop over time. If you’re wallowing out the insides, I’d suspect flutter is damaging them. I’ve been very unfriendly to a few 5945’s and have only noticed a slight amount of gear wear. I’ve never seen one get torn up. If you got a few years out of them (as I have), you’re making the JR guys very jealous! I’m not bashing the JR servos, but my experience with them has been less than impressive. Every single 8411 and 8611 I’ve had has been practically worthless after 50-60 flights. I put that many flights on a plane in a month in the summer. If the gears don’t wear out first, the pots will (at least the 8411). Sure, JR will probably re-gear them for free, but that’s a major hassle to remove, box and ship, wait, reinstall and re-setup your bird; especially a 40%. You can’t argue with their service, though. I’d send them back to Hitec with a note and see where that gets you first. As a side note, none of my 5955’s have developed any gear wear at all. I can’t see why other manufacturers aren’t going that route.

First of all, let's ignore the post count, it's an issue being worked on.
Next...Paul... Am I to understand that you are posting a complaint of wear on 2 year old servos before ever contacting the manufacturer about an issue you feel is an engineering problem? I may have mis-understood your post, and if I did, I sincerely apologize, but, maybe contacting Hitec service about your concerns "first" might be the best way to handle this problem. Just a thought... Having some slop in two year old metal geared servos would be considered normal wear and tear. BTW: I changed the title to best describe the content of this thread. I think you should definatly have called Hitec before bashing them down to JR status, no pun intended. I can understand asking about anyone else having this problem but you should give Hitec the first opportunity to help. Hitec's servos are really in my mind the only thing competetive they have for the market. Until they come out with 2.4ghz or a 8,9,10,11,12 or more channel TX. Their servos have really come a long way, and thier price has no competition!!!! So i would throw them a bone. They have thrown one to us regardless of one persons servo failures. Just common courtesy.

Will hopefully post soon how well they backed up there new improved servos with alternitive parts at my cost.. I do fly XXtreme 3D.. As my partners who wore out theres is the same manner and some Less evaisive IMAC Hi G manuevers.. The putting the improvemnet in the servos shows the real story in almost every magazine.... |

5945 served us well just like 8411 did - they are in my book previous generation servos and the stuff we get now is much improved - the older type servos had there problems but there was nothing better - now there is!! i still have many 5945'sthat do ok!

Hi "flyin woodbutcher" sounds like a good idea you posted
"your qoute" Hitec should offer a good repair/fix for this problem. Maybe a case top with the BRASS bushing. PS my title for post should be about the upper plastic housing that steel shaft rides in..there is no bushing or bearing at all.. just a steel rod that pivits in plastic.. PS ALL my intereior servos gears are perfect and have no wear at all.. |

Ideally the gear pin should remain stationary and the gear rotate on the pin. I also have quite a few of these servos and have noticed no problem but I will check mine again to be sure thanks for the heads up
