Hey Trev, yeah it was great to have the Marcelo's here in South Africa, super guys!

Ben, these planes fly really well, straight as you want or as wild as you dare. In fact, I cant think of anything that could be improved, they are just perfect. The new 330 has a taller fuse with less twisting. I got the ARF's but because the kit is all pre-sheeted building shouldn't take too long. The 30% is ballistic with a ZDZ80, what motor you thinking of using?

Here is a link to a vid of me flying my 27%, and here is the 33% on its third flight.

I got the opportunity to fly a 35 % at an IMAC comp and over 12 months later
I still think it was one of the best planes I have ever flown .

The plane was set up with a 3W106 CS and 3W pipes . The servos were 5955
on all surfaces and the power was through a Smart fly system .

I had never flown this plane prior to that day and I only missed winning my class
by a very small margin . The plane is VERY locked in and stabe at all attitudes .
The rudder is a good size so it made my hammers much easier . The plane had
been trimmed by one of the best flyers in the country and I could fell every bit
of it . She was on rails .

If you have flown pattern before (2x2) you will like this plane ,it is straight up and
straight down and gives a very relaxed feel when you are off the sticks . I got the
feeling of only having to guide the plane through the air rather than being rushed
like with some other air frames .

As I didn't set the plane up I dont know how much mixing was going on but I
could not feel any compromises ie down line mixes etc

I could go on for ever how much I liked this plane but if you want a wood plane
with covering you will not find a better plane .

My uncle has a 38% Extra, what an awesome plane. Flies like a rock. Good luck with your build.

I was thinking of doing the 30% 330 with a 3W 85/DA 85/ZDZ Super 80. Might go with the 33% and a Kroma 100.

Hey Ben well it seems like your settled then I think that a kroma 100 and 33% will be awsome package. i think that motor is really light. But if you go with the 30% then the ZDZ80 RVJ sould be the one. Well good luck mate and let us know what you decide and how things go .............

cheers Trev

Thanks guys! I wonder if either plane could be modified to accept the elevator servos into the horizontal stab?

aaflyer,

Great looking 30% Extra you got there! I have myself a 27% one. It is my first gasser so I am
not that experienced to say, but I think that if this extra had lighter wing loading it could be out of this world! My extras wing loading is right about 100g /dm^2 ( 71,4dm^2 and 7100g) and I do have some bad tendencies to over snapping.

But the new 30% version with its advertised 97,8dm^2 wing area and weight of as light as 8500g that would make it very interesting project.. (maybe with the new DA-85 when it arrives?)

What is the weight of your 30% and on what engine are you running it?
