Default Re: Columbo Anderson Extra 300/330

Hi, the new BME 115cc is only 10 1/2 " wide, so the engine will fit inside the cowl of the CA 30% Extra 330L...the engine weight less of any 80 cc single....also... it seems that with some little work it will clear a 27" prop. I really think that it is kind of insane, but actually this plane is 95"ws. and around 22lbs. What do you think?
Thanks
Alex

I flew the 38% last year in unlimited. What a nice airplane. Had the servos in the stab two per side and not a problem so I think that would work for you. You will like the plane from the get go. I had over 500 flights on the thing in a year and no problems. It had a 157 and all 8611s in it.

Ben, these planes fly really well, straight as you want or as wild as you dare. In fact, I cant think of anything that could be improved, they are just perfect. The new 330 has a taller fuse with less twisting. I got the ARF's but because the kit is all pre-sheeted building shouldn't take too long. The 30% is ballistic with a ZDZ80, what motor you thinking of using?

Here is a link to a vid of me flying my 27%, and here is the 33% on its third flight.
Hello-- three of our club members built this airplane (27% 330L) and all three have a bad flight characteristic. When you do a medium size loop at medium speed, the airplane tracks threw the loop fine until it get's to the bottom of the loop and is almost horizontal again, then it veers to the right sharply and goes up alittle. Our planes are reasonable light, 16 to 17 lbs and have hitec 7955 servos on the elevator. Wing and tail incidence are perfect on all airplanes. Both elevator halves track together perfectly. I fully realize that all airplanes will veer off if you pull a very tight loop but this is definately not a real tight loop. I had heard that other people were having a similar problem and thought that the fuse may be twisting. I checked this but mine seems to be reasonably ridged. Any thoughts ????????????

Yes, I think I have something for you. Alot of Columbos and Columbo knockoff arfs exhibited this behavior. If you do a google search for Pete Goldsmiths trimming guide you will find an excellent guide on how to trim an aerobatic aircraft. He references your issue in the dynamic balance section. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I will try the dynamic trimming and see if it makes a difference. Does anyone know if this airplane (27% Extra 330L builders kit) has a problem with the fuselage twisting ??? Someone somewhere had said this ??

thanks for your help
