Hey Guys, Our club lost its Flying site, but we have a new one being established. I purchased some orange Plastic "Snow Fencing" from one of the local Hardware stores and attempted to put it up as our Pilot Barrier.....Man, What Junk!!! It would tear just trying to secure it, so there's no way it will stop a plane!!
What have other clubs used and where can I find it? How about some suggestions and links for what's worked for you.... Thanks! |

I think that is the stuff our club has....it has saved my shins from some out of control old timers.
The prop tears it, but no plane will come through it. Chris |

We have been using tennis court netting. We just replaced it this winter, the old fence lasted 7 years.

Wow, we have had our snow fencing up for over a year and it is holding up just fine. We double it over for more security. Only minor tears in it so far. To my knowledge no planes have run into it - maybe we are just better pilots here in Boise, lol.

We have the pvc orange fence setup. It is doing its job pretty well. I dont think it is meant to stop a plane at half throttle or anything, just separate the flight line from the pitts, mark pilot locatons and MAYBE slow/stop a plane that idles into it.

Larry,
The green metal wire mesh works really well. It's green so it isn't distracting, and metal so it will stop pretty much anything. I think they sell it at Home Nightmare. |

Probably a stupid question, But does anyone besides me have kind of a problem standing behind a "pilot fence" (made of metal, with metal chain link runnin across it) and flying their "pride and joy"?
These things just give me the creeps when you realize that you could be standing next to something that may effect your radio waves in some way, shape, or form...... Might be silly, but even on 2.4, I seem to wander back a bit towards the pits, or basically just AWAY from those fences at our field....

The AMPS field in Miami has the best barriers I have seen.
They planted hedges in a semi-circle and keep them trimmed up nicely about 36" tall. Looks really nice and is very effective. Depending on where you live, this may or may not be an option. If Tony see this, maybe he can post some pics.
