Default TopFlite GiantScale Corsair

I hope Dave doesn't kill me for stealing his thunder on this one, but I couldn't help but post something.

My Buddy Dave (Dave_ORCC on here) finally maidened his Giant Scale Corsair yesterday evening.

This maiden has been a long time coming, since Dave has been building this plane on and off for the last 4-5 years.

I hafta say, this plane has one of the most beautiful finishes I've ever seen. It's all airbrushed and done in Fleet Air Arm Colours. (afterall, it was the Brits who proved you could land one on a carrier )

Maiden went beatifully, although I must say, I think I could hear Dave's knees knocking together during the flight from where I was standing with the camera.
I can't wait until this one becomes a regular at the club!.

That's all I have to add for now... I'll let Dave fill in the rest of the details. Enjoy the pics... they really don't do the plane justice.

Congrats Dave!
Tom

I keep telling Dave that that inverted gull wing should do killer blenders...
but I don't think he's listening to me.

Hey ***??!! Tom, you go and post this here!! Just kidding my friend. I posted a few messages on some other sites last night and was just too tired to post here. Thanks for posting, and thanks for your help yesterday.

Yep, after almost five years of building (off and on) she finally did what she was meant to do. FLY!! I was pleasantly surprised with the maiden. Keep in mind, these comments are after only one flight but, she did feel really good in the air. My biggest concern was landing. On my first approach she was still about 12 feet off the deck as it went by me so I throttled up and went around again. Next time around she settled in quite nicely. A little long perhaps but, the idle was set a little high so I couldn't chop the power right off whe I was just about to touch down. Once on the ground she slowed down some more and the tail stopped flying. As it rolled just off the end of the runway, I started to turn around to taxi back and she nosed over. When I got to it, I discovered one wheel had sunk about 3 inches into the really soft sand which is why I think it nosed over. Yes, that is MY story and I AM sticking to it Oh, well, that was one "walk-of-shame" I didn't mind at all.

The flight itself wasn't terribly adventurous. Well, certainly not adventurous to a spectator! Yes, my knees were knocking a bit, sorry if it was too loud for you Tom. Just some laps and a few fly-by's at a realtively safe altitude. I hope to get those a little lower in the future as I get comfortable with it.

It seems to have plenty of power with the G-62 in the nose but, I don't think I'll be attempting any hovering soon. Nor will I practice my rolling circles with it hhhmmmmm, blenders with a Corsair...... might be something to try on the sim but, not with MY plane. Sorry to dissapoint you, Tom.

Anyway, I'll stop rambling on about a Warbird on a mainly aerobatic site. Here are a few more pics that my other buddy, Dave took.

Cheers,
Dave

Sorry about the grin in the last pic........I think I still have that grin on my face

Thanks!! While there is nothing wrong with a shiny, like new, blue Corsair, I wanted something a little different. The Brittish Corsairs were not known for their pristine look so the finish is VERY weathered. As an added benefit to the weathering, a little hanger-rash is no big deal. Just adds to the realism

It's got a G-62 on the nose. AUW, 27lbs, WS 86" Futaba Rx.Futaba, Hitec and JR servos. Robart retracts and my own design functional gear doors.

Cheers,
Dave

Looks good! I did the maiden on one for a friend the other day. It's a good flying bird. I love the realistic look on yours. My friend's looks good, but it is one of those pristince navy blue ones...

Just curious, did you glass this plane before finish or did you airbrush over iron on covering?

Mine as well. Mine will have to be shiny first, My planes weather just fine naturally.
