What radio are you using? Setup is everything with heli's so a pitch guage is a must. Does it have a belt driven tail?

futaba 9c super with a hitec 5 ch rec. it has a shaft driven tail. I can't get my throttle and pitch to work right at all. everything else seems to work in the right direction. I was told by one club member that I need a heli specific speed controller.is this true? I have a castle thunderbird speed controller now. I guess I should mention that this is my first electric heli.

nah... the speed control doesnt care what you use it for. Its all in the curves you set up. What exactly is the pitch/throttle doing ?

when the stick is centered I have 0 pitch and about half throttle, move the stick to the top and I get a bunch of neg. pitch and full throttle. drop it to the bottom and i get positive pitch and no throttle!

pitch is reversed.

Your throttle is fine in normal mode you might just need to tweak the curve to not overspeed the head.

When you go center stick in mode 1 (normal) you can either be @ 0 or you can be @ hover pitch +4 to +6 usually a little lower in the little choppers. If you fly 3D than your hover point is about 3/4 stick simulating flying in idle up where your running negative pitch in your lower stick. For beggining I reccomend 0 pitch @ stick back position. Plus you wont be auto rotating these little guys.

AT about center stick you should be about 75% throttle and only pitch changing until about 3/4 stick. After 3/4 your pitch and throttle should advance together. Most of your flying is around center stick.

Try reversing your pitch and see what that does. Also set up throttle hold. This should be utilized when ever you are handling these little guys as they can do some damage while working on them.

thanks toro! I'll try that tomorrow and report back. I am learning so 3d on this won't be happening. this is my first collective heli so I don't want it to be real sensitive right now.
has anyone ever flown this heli before. I see that tower now sells them but I got mine from www.mscompositusa.com just curious what others think of the heli.

I have flown and set up a Hornet and a Hornet 2 which the 3dX was based on. the heli will seem very touchy and sensitive on the cyclic even with expo. add about six wraps of solder to the flybar on each side, that will add weight and slow the cyclic response down to a more manageable 'feel'. when wrapping the solder make sure that you do not over lap but wind it onto the flybar as tight as you can get it, as you dont want this weight to come off in flight. you may want to also add some weight to the main blades, this is more involved and I believe that there is still a website that tells you how to do this. but adding the weight to the blades will also help the 'feel' of the heli as even the smallest breeze will affect the heli. I will see if I can find the web page that explains how to install the weight into the main blades, I do know that the information is by Walt Ferrar, the Hornet Helicopter Master.

hope that this helps and good luck with your heli.

yep were using hs-55's on the cyclic and tail, using a gy-240 gyro with the case off it to save some weight. as for pitch I think it is around 5-6 degrees at hover and -3 or 4 on the bottom and around 11 or 12 degrees on the top end. your total pitch will be different as I fly at 5000ft and so I have to fly with more pitch. but you should be around the same, I would suggest that you only have 0 or -1 on the bottom end since your just learning and have negative pitch can cause you to pile drive the heli into the ground if your not careful.

hope that this info helps
