What many don't know, since all the attention is given to JR and Hitec, is that Futaba is the best manufacturer of servos of them all. I use Futaba products at work and all the testing between servo types and manufacturers has brought the proof of superiority back to Futaba every time, by a very large margin. Unfortunatly I fly JR radios for my own stuff so I get wrapped up in the sameJR/Hitec issues everyone else does.

Those using Futaba gear will be very happy with the new servos hitting the market. The rest of us get to make a choice between fast gear wear or rough feeling gear trains.

I would use Futaba servos exclusively if they were programmable like the Hitecs. That is THE selling point for me. After setting up planes with Matchboxes and now doing it with the programmer, I could never go back. I can’t understand why neither JR nor Futaba have addressed end user programmability. Matchboxes and the like are so archaic to me.

own many many 5955 and the rest - also been through the 8411/8611 gear problem - like the specs of the 8711 but no way for the extra $40+ - so for now the 5955 still rule

Why not use Futaba servos? Of course receivers arent compatible, but futaba servos work just fine with those receivers. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you wrote?

Perfect example, our SAE backup aircraft has a JR radio/receiver, hitec 645 servo on elev, futaba 3102's on ailerons, an FMA on the rudder and a hitec 81 on throttle. Talk about an assortment.

I do not own any 8711's but I do like the 5955. The link above will explain several reasons why.

The 5955 TG gear train is irreplaceable till other use same level of gears that hold out as good. I heavily rely on the programmability too now.

Check this out, but I don't recommend repeating. I had a 33% Edge 540, and it got clobbered by a .40 sized model at 400ft. My Edge went down hard! I had two 8411 servos in the elevators, one 8611A in the rudder, and four HS-5955TG's in the main wings. When I recovered all the pieces of my model, all the JR servos were toast, and the Hitecs still feel like new!
