This thread is once again getting off track. I would really like some input from some people with real life experiences and dedicated research time on this topic on servos, not sponsored pilots who fly out of Tucson, whatever that means.

Here is my opinion. JR is a better servo. Hitec has a better gearset with less torque than the 8711. As far as the accuracy... JR. I think the Hitec wins because of price, then gear reliability. JR makes a very nice and accurate servo... dont get me wrong.

I have ran both, I prefer Hitec because of the geartrain and programibility, Kiss method no matchboxes or special transmitter programming. Hitec is cheaper, and their customer service Is un beatable. I once burned up 4 transmitters with a faulty aftermarket trainer cord and they repaired them all for free some was over 4 years old.

I noticed that you left out the Futaba 9156 out of this competition, which I don't really blame you it is in a league by itself. Putting that servo in a comparison with these other two would be like Hulk Hogan wrestleling at a High school wrestleing match!

I've been running a 5955 single servo (pull-pull) on the rudder of my 35% Troy Built Extra 260. While it performed good, I could simulate some blow-back using my hand on the rudder. I figured this was just due to the large amount of leverage I could get with the size of my rudder. I decided based on TBM's servo testing to try the 8711 in place of the 5955. The difference in torque with my hand on the rudder and holding power was noticeable. I attribute this to the "throttling back" feature on the 5955.

I decided to leave the 8711 on there. Not that the 5955 isn't a good servo, but for an application that demands the most torque (non-ganged etc), I'd recommend the 8711's. The titanium gears are really nice though JR...how about putting titanium gears in the future 8711's.....

Programmability bottom line
Last year when I set my h9 27% I bought servos for larger future models. I bought 1 8611a for $154 can. Then I read a similar thread and someone posted:
Quote:
The 5955's are so good it's like they aren't made by hitec
So I put the 8611a on the rudder and 2 5955's on the elev's. I was always ticked I could not get the halves to match using a slave channel. They were close, but not perfect. Then one magical day I got a programmer. Within 10 minutes the 2 halves weren't just close, they were dead nuts!
So I bought a 35% rtf of a guy with 8411's in the wings, 2 8611's on the rudder, 8611 each elev. I tried to get the aileron servos to match using my radio, close but no dice.
Then I swapped out the 8411's for hitecs, I got them bang on, not close, dead nuts.

Yes the JR's are smother, yes the 8611's develop slop, yes the hitecs "step" , but which is a better setup, close or dead nuts?

Use what your comfortable with. Its all good stuff.
Some like programmers, some like matchboxes and some like sub trim and ATV..

I'd like to do a test though one day...
Take an average pilot and have two of the same planes in the air.
One has a "perfect" set up and the others set up is "off" or not "perfect"
I'd be suprised if anyone could tell the difference or determine which one was "off" in the air.
Thats where it matters doesnt it??
