I'm in the same boat here. My triton went out on me with a teeny puff of smoke.
While i was talking to the owner of the model shop he told me about the hyperion chargers or atleast i think thats the brand he said. He showed me their top of the line of the 3 he had in stock and it charged lithiums up to 12 cells and all the other type batts ni cd nh metals and so on for i think 169. It also had ac and dc power cords so you could plug it into a wall or your car battery no extra power supply needed. If i was getting a multi port lithium charger the ion cube from fromeco is lookin really nice. edit; here is the mid lvl one i just found on the net, might just be the one i get. http://www.allerc.com/product_info.p...oducts_id=2749 and this is all i could find for the upper lvl one that goes to 12 cell lithiums http://www.allerc.com/product_info.p...oducts_id=2787 this link has more info http://www.3dhobbyshop.com/detail.aspx?ID=1965 Last edited by Flatlandman; 05-11-2007 at 03:05 AM. |

I bought a Duratrax ICE charger a few years ago and still use it to charge everything I have with the exception of my Duralites. I was comparing the ICE to the Triton and ended up with the ICE. Mine's been used and abused for about 3 years straight and has yet to let me down.
The new Triton 2 looks pretty cool as well. |

I have a TP1010 & 210 balancer, Bantam e902 and 2 x PB6 balancers, Hyperion EOS & balancer and a Supernova Competition. Also have a Ion Cube on its way. (What can I say.... I love batteries & chargers!!) I think the e902 is the pick - it can do up to 12 lipos and will connect to a computer for a graph of the charging info.

I use the Sommer Miniron. it charges 5 batteries at the same time but has a current limit of 2 amps total. It can be used sequentially (one battery at a time) or in parallel. I had it repaired a year ago after 3 yrs of use service was great.

i have a hyperion 1210i...it is 12s/10a capable, but you need a power supply that will support it...here's a post i placed in logomaniac forum:
Anyone considering a123 should be fully aware of the charging requirements…the 1210i-a manual states, ”It is critically important that you use either a fully charged 12v lead-acid automobile battery or a high quality ac-dc power supply in the range of 12v to 15v dc output, with minimum current rating of 8a (such as the BK Precision model 1692*). When charging high voltage batteries at high current, an output rating of up to 25a may be required.” On another forum, poster ‘hermperez’ stated: “You can use your car battery but it is dangerous (you could get stranded), usually they have a capacity of 30-50ah when new, and about half that when they are two years old, and usually zilch when they are about 4 years old. If you live in Arizona then cut that life in half. Lets say you have a 6s1p A123 pack suitable for a 40-45 size plane, it will require 3v*2.3Ah*6 = 41wh to charge it up. Your new car battery (in a small econobox, new battery) has a capacity of 30Ah * 12.3V = 369Wh, so theoretically it could charge your 6s1p A123 pack 369/41= 9 times But note that you don’t usually want to discharge the lead acid battery more than 1/2 if you want it to last, and that your charger is maybe 80% efficient, thus that cuts down on the available power.. 369wh * 1/2 * 80% = 147Wh, thus in reality you can charge your 6s A123 pack 147/41 = 3.6 times So I would say run the car engine (ac and other electrical loads off) after you have charged your 3rd-4th pack. Note that it will take a long drive to fully recharge the battery.” *3-15vdc 40a switching power supply, which sells on ebay for $309 I use an Astro120 (13.8v/12.5a, which is why i'm limited to less than 10a when charging my 6s a123.)

thanks for the welcome...i'm no expert in batteries and charging, but i've learned a lot from some super posters on other forums...this might be a little off topic, but here's a thread from one of the posters that i referred to (lucien)...i'm sure you'll agree that his threads are really helpful to anyone interested in building packs, charging, etc...ken
