Default JR 9303 will not stay powered on!

Just finished up some AP exams this week, and by some miraculous turn of events I don’t have anything taking up my time this Saturday. So last night I charged up my 30% yak and 9303 and got ready to go fly.

This morning I wake up at 7:30 to go out to this lake and fly. I turn on my 9303, flip a switch and then it just shut off all of a sudden. Then I flip it again and it turns back on.

Turns out if I shake it, tap it with my finger, flip a switch or just jar the radio a tiny bit the radio will turn off and then turn back on. Sometimes it will just stay off.

I replaced the fuse but the original fuse was not even broke in the first place and the problem is still there. My battery is fully charged, it is not a battery problem.

When I tap the circuit board on the back cover of the radio with my finger the radio cycles of and on. This is very strange.

I am going to just send it in to horizon on Monday but I was wondering if any one else ever had a problem like this and if there is an easy fix?

This is the most infuriating thing that has happened to me in months.

I never get to fly!

Luckily you found it out before your plane was in the air.

No kidding, I was planning on toning down the expo on low rates before I went to fly but you never know.

It is just so strange because any little flick of the finger on any part of the radio turns it off and on.

I cant imagine what it could be.

Try just nudging the power switch. No brutal stuff, just use thumb pressure and the likes on it to move it and see if you can make or break the circuit.

I was flying once with an older Futaba single stick radio. Had the rudder, elevator and ailerons all on one stick with the throttle on a slider. It was hard to get used to at first but after a while I liked it a lot.

Well it powered off on me one day while flying this plastic low wing thing. It flew round and round and round in circles for some 15 minutes. Totally with out the Rx powered on. I tried every trick in the dang book but in the end the big ground magnet got it and wrote it off.

Later and in a calmer mind I found that all I had to do to power it on was hold the power switch down with a tiny bit of force and it fired up, let the switch go and it died again.

Maybe you have some of the same gremlins with you at present.

Regardless however it needs fixing by technicians so fiddling with it wont fix it.

If you've had the back off of the TX for some reason, did you make sure that no screws somehow got in the case and are rattling around loose, causing a short? Also, if you've had the back off, are there wires chafing?

I'm glad you caught that before you went out to fly.

Sound like it could be something on the circut board, if you tap on the radio and it recycles or goes on and off you must have a loose connection somewhere. It could be a trace on the board that has a hairline crack or something, if it were my radio I would send it to Horizon or to Radio South for a check up, don't take a chance with it because it will not fix itself and will fail at the worse time. Better to be safe than sorry, just my 2 cents.

Its sounds like the switch went bad, like a bad connection or something. Nothing that would be easy for you to fix.
