Default Painting the inside?

Hey guys,

I've seen several planes around with paint inside the fuse.. It looks really nice and i think it would look especially nice in my 300L.. But are there any big disadvantages? Weight maybe? I cant really see it being all that heavy..

Also.. Do I need to paint the firewall and motor box to protect it from the fuel? I think paint is lighter than epoxy.

About the only way I know how to do it right is before covering, or after stripping an ARF for recover.

I stripped a 3DHS 103" Extra 330SC to do a custom scheme. Perfect time to hit it with a light layer of primer gray then speckle trunk paint. Gas/oil proof and looks good.

Don't know about weight. Has to add something but probably not much.

On the motorbox & firewall. Most ARFs already come with some sealant (3DHS does), but I painted it anyway.

No disadvantage what so ever except a minuscule weight gain. I always paint or coat with thined epoxy the motor box (inside and out) and the firewall back a little ways. Currently I have been painting the inside of the fuse and motor box just because it does look nicer

I like a thin coat of primer and a thin coat of rock paint. It will add a few ounces of weight, but sure looks nice.

I've been doing this the last 5 years or so.

What you need is the light grey Rustoileum (sp?) primer.

Tape off what you don't want to get paint on... then spray light coats, just enough to make it look gray. Do not try to fill the grain. It will look like CRAP at this point and you will be asking yourself, why am i doing this...

Let it set up, 20-30 minutes and then use the Stone Creations paint, again quick strokes, just enough to make it look splattered. Then, all the grain seems to disappear.

Let it dry overnight... done.

Depending on how much you want to cover, it will add about 2-3 oz on a 40%.

No complaints to date. It'll do a whole lot more than I ask of it.
