Shortly after the first flights, this plane was badly damaged. The back half was joined with another Carden and flown for the rest of the year. John Wondra and Darin Kuhn flew the airplane at the TAS. If you do a photo search, you might be able to find it. Not hard to miss. The plane is owned by a flyer from Renton, WA.

Steve I also would like to here how this system is standing up along with the system for the sides they look interesting. I see Carden is now offering their kits with a CNC cut motor box. Not sure if you can buy it after you have bought a kit and what the price would be? I seem to be unable to get an email to go to Carden. I will just phone on Monday.

Hi Steve and all,
In an effort to avoid some confusion, it should be made clear that the motor boxes available from Carden are not the same as is discussed in this thread. The CnC router cut boxes are cut from the same five-ply aircraft birch - which cannot be laser cut - that is found in the stock Carden kit, as opposed to the baltic birch common in laser-cut applications. So, comparing this motor box to what Carden has available is not an accurate comparison. Dennis and Caroline are out of town Fri - Sun (in fact Dennis is picking up several of the new motor boxes), so give him a shout on Monday and he'd be more than happy to fill you in on the details.

Hi Matt,
Yes, the firewall and sides are 5 - ply. I should have been clearer in my above post - whether or not a ply can be laser-cut is based the type of glue used as opposed to the number of layers. I made it sound as though 5-ply wood can't be laser cut, which is not true. My apologies.
