Some of you guys on this site will fight to the death holding on to ideas that are bordering on the edge of actually working . Going from A123's back to LiIon. Use A123's with 14 gauge wire to the PE. A123's are going to be the best battery for a while, just like 2.4 radios that a lot of guys fought and are still trying to find something wrong with. There are quite a few guys on this site that know what they are talking about. Find out who they are and listen to them (I do). If you don't know who they are yet, hintevery third word is at least spelled correctly). IMHO A123's ,2.4, lighter motors,GS ARF's,stronger servos, etc, have made this hobby more of a flying thing and less of a building thing. The only thing that is a problem is faulty electronics across the board that we really have no control over.

Yes, I have been using A123's for well over a year now. This is why I use 14 ga wire to the power Expander. I have to read a bunch of personal crap all the time on these threads, while good questions go unanswered.I thought it would take more than several hours to find someone that could type correctly and I had to offend some guys to get a reply at all. It worked.

The green cell packs exceed their rate capacity more than the white cell packs which typically would come up short of rated. Just like the 1100's which from 4v flat to full will only take 1060 mAh consistently. From 6.4 to full, a normal range I see mid to high 900 mah.

We did an amp load test at 1, 2, and 3 amps but I will have to look back because I would be guessing to say any numbers at the moment. I recall no noticeable difference in the new vs old cells. Really 3 amps out of a rated 70 is a small percent.

yep i agree totaly. the last test i did was with using light bulbs 2 12 volt 1157 using all 4 elements. and this is what i use to drain a pack when someone has a bad out of balance pack. anywho i pluged them in using a amp meter and my fluke 23 in line to verify correct voltage. i was pulling 3.8 amps for 38 minutes before any notice of voltage change was present. i was most impressed. so i at that point threw away every battery i had and this is all i use now no even a lipoly showed that kind of stamina

Yep - been using A123s for the last 2 years and wouldn't go back to any other power source for the Rx. They are starting to gain popularity over here in the UK and more guys are starting to discover the benefits of these batts

What setup are you using i.e switches, wiring, balance, charger that allows you to charge in 10 minutes?

I do exactly the same thing on my 35% Extra. I also have the Fromeco Kodiak swicth which gives me a MaH reading on how much I've used from each pack. Have two for the radio and one for ignition.

I've noticed that Fromeco has discontinued the Kodiak switch. Only been out a year. Does anyone know why?

I called Fromeco to order some batts last week and was told that the Kodiak swiches had been discontinued because of a component that is no longer available. After whining a bit (I really like my Kodiak switches) I was told that they have an even better switch in development and it would be available in a couple of months.

I sure don't miss the days of having to charge Nicads overnight for 15 hours.

Absolutely. But give them credit, they have served us well for many year, and still do.

Hi fellows, After 6 mos and a few problems I got my TBM P-40 96 inch with a DA 85 ready to go at the field. Started up the DA 85 1st time, ran it 10 min, then went out on taxi way for 5 min when smoke appeared from all openings and engine died.Popped the canopy to see a small electrical fire which we blew out.
I am running 2 3300 123 batteries to a Wolvorine switch, then out on a JR connector to the receiver. Also a 1100 123 on the ignition.
The main wire from the switch to the the receiver was totally melted and the Optikill was on fire. Help, what happened?

Short somewhere. When a A123 shorts it just dumps out everything which would melt standard wire. My guess is that it was in the optokill sinse it had fire.

first there are no 3300 A123's its hard to say what happened without seeing it and seeing the wireing configuration. but it had to be pulling some serious power to catch on fire. had to have been a dead short somewhere. and the batteries wont catch on fire. sorry for the loss. also you should run at least 2 outputs to the receiver, if you are only using standard connector.
