Bad-ass Super Contributer!

Where was you when we had the 1 vs 2 receiver thread...LOL Nice Save. Personally I have throttle on one receiver and Choke on the other on my 42% I can kill the engine with either receiver.
Did you figure out why your receiver flaked?

I think the receiver was an older one I had taken out of my Turbo Raven. It did the same thing in that plane too. I guess I sent the wrong receiver in for repair and this one was accidently put back into a new plane. I have definatley marked this receiver as bad and it will be going back. Hey, sometimes things just break and don't work.
I will be flying agian probabbly tomorrow at TRCC. I will weigh the airplane today but my guess would be around 60-63 pounds. This thing really has FANTASTIC power. The 275 gives it the performance of a 40% plane on a 150. I am really excited for this plane, I think it would really be cool to compete with it at the Shootout. I could use the big Edge for the freestyle. This could be the next step up in competition: 50% planes! These big a$$ planes are really cool. I think everyone should have one. I know where you could get a few too! The Weeks Solution has a double swept wing that should improve its aerobatic manuevering. This is one reason Chip Hyde loved the Ultimate over the Pitts type airplane. This is basically a Pitts with both wing sweeping. I will have a better feeling of its capabilities after another 50-60 flights! I will let you know next week. Bill Hempel |

Hey Bill... thanks for writing this up, I'm really excited to see something else than an extra or yak on the flight line. Don't get me wrong I love flying my Extra... but those big bipes look killer in the air.
Can you comment on this: http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/fg2/16593-50-pitts-challenger-trueworthly-41-pitts-12-python-what-do-you-think.html Do you think that it could be a competitive plane in IMAC? Was this a scratch build or a kit you built? I'm glad to see you put cans on the 275 as noise is always an issue... are there any 3 bladers available for the 275's? I'd love to see some more pictures of the plane... inside? Awesome man... Awesome. Matt

Ok Bill fess up. Your bored flying regular old air planes big or small with full controll. You wer challenged by the loss of a wing on the wild hare and that got your pulse rate up where you wanted it but after a while it was just not cutting the mustard. So you intentionally put in a bad reciever to challange your skills even further on the maiden of this beutiful plane !!! Your a nut !
Great job on the the plane congats on the maiden and nice job on bringing her home safely !

Bill - that is one beautiful aircraft!
Did you build it or someone else - just curious? It looks so great! Glad it came home safe after the drama - but you'll never outdo the WH 1 wing incident. Classic, maybe even bordering on legendary LOL. New guys with trainers come to the field and ask about the mythical 1-wing landing LOL. I've been following you guys doing prop testing of those huge blades. I have a program in Excel that does some calculations / estimations. I'm not surprised they are loud even with cans... the 36x14 @ 5400 RPM for example is estimated to have a tip speed of .74 Mach on the ground and .84 in the air. Gonna be hard to find a quiet combo. |

Could have just as easily gone the other way. Nerevertheless, I bet your were jazzed to be able to tap on the receiver, and confirm the problem with the model intacted. "Video". Get Jason and the Edge out there, and play some music!

I'm getting ready to build ( yes I said build, not arf) a Weeks Solution X which was designed by Miles Reed this fall, I'm thinking about using the same scheme for mine only it about 35% and not 52%. Great looking and flying plane, the Weeks could be one of RC most kept secerts use to fly them back in the early 90's.

This weekend will be the certification flight. I still need to turn all the paperwork in n the 50% Edge too, talk about being lazy! I will turn (fax) all the stuff in all at once. Here are a couple of construction pics. Yes; AJ Lee built, covered and painted this for me. I choose the scheme! He was very affordable.
