Default Hobbico 9 Channel 2.4 GHz" Questions

I was told a couple of days ago straight from Hobbico that they will jump from a 7 Channel 2.4Ghz to a 12 Channel!

I don't need 12 channels but need more than 7, I sure as he!! don't want to spend $12-1500 for a new Tx.

Looks like I'm going to be a JR customer. Their 9 Channel X9303 2.4GHz will be out in July!

I think Team Orange is missing the boat here.

Any comments from the Team Orange guys?

Thanks,

Magoo

I've been a Futaba guy since I started flying, so I was anxiously waiting for the guys in orange to get something to market with more than 7 channels (which by the way is still not available from what I understand) with a preference for 9 channels.

The Futaba support folks over on another forum... said the other day that the initial release will be the feature downgraded from the 12Z radio, the new 12FG radio with a 2.4 module in it.

Since they only offer the 9C Super in a nine channel radio now, and the modules for that will only offer 8 channels since the tx must be in PPM mode to work, I'm still wondering if the 12FG will have all 12 channels?

Then there's the part of it only being an RF module so you don't get the speed avantage of a true 2.4 GHz system, although it's supposed to be the faster 2048 frame rate of the 12 and 14 series radios. Then there is the unknown price range? The 12FG is supposed to be $995.00 with an rx in the 72 MHz stuff, is that what it'll be with the 2.4 module? Don't know.

Because of these questions as well as the unknown availability date, I backordered the new X9303 JR.

Looks like the 2.4 version of the 12Fg will be $200 more than the 72Mhz version

As a Futaba pilot.(not sponsored)I agree that Futaba would be missing the boat here. With that being said, I didn't here this from Hobbico, so I can't talk. I'll probably upgrade my 9C to 2.4 sometime, but for now, 72 Mhz works fine. I'm not all into the 2.4 Ghz setup now. I'm going to wait for a few bugs to be worked out of Spektrum, and I'll wait past the initial order to see if the FASST system is as flawless as I expect it to be.

Hi, Magoo-

Actually, Hobbico will be selling a 9C Super FASST system. This will include the R608FS receiver.

I hope that this helps. If you need any assistance, don't hesitate to post something here or send me a pm. I'd be glad to help you.

Best regards,
Mark

Mark,

Maybe the person at Hobbico did not know what they were talking about then.

I would much rather stay with Team Orange but I have put a X9303 on backorder.

I like how Futaba has only has one set of Antenna instead of the silly remote that JR needs. Futaba's technology seems to be more robust than JR.

Is that receiver 8 or 9 channels on the included receiver?

Mark, I know that Futaba is slow in dispensing with info on this stuff....even to their sponsored pilots, but if they are coming out withy a 9C FASST Radio any idea of when?

Thanks

After reading how 2.4 works, I'll be glad to install a silly remote antenna. In fact, I'll go one better and use 2 remote antennas if it gives me a chance to save a $5000+ airplane vs losing it due to my signal being blocked. Futaba seems to tackle the antenna situation by using longer coaxial cables to mount the 2 antennas in diverse positions. Either way you have to take care to mount a remote receiver or "remote" antennas (take a look at the Futaba FASST 6 manual if you don't know what I mean here). Hopefully either system will work well.

I myself am waiting for the new moduel's to hit the shelve's. I have a 9Z just waiting for it. I wish those things would finally come out. I only have a few more weeks to maiden my new 35% sukoi.......and i wanted a SS system in it. Guess i'm going to have to make a decision here pretty quick.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe PCM 2048 refers to using 2048 steps of resolution for each channel, not 2048 frames per second. So it's not faster, just more precise. I believe the frame rate for PCM is only 17 frames per second regardless of the resolution.
