Here's the way it works:

Your radio = PCM

Any and ALL radio brand PPM will hit you and you will get a failsafe condition.

Any OTHER brand PCM besides your brand will hit you and you will get a failsafe condition.

BUT if the hit comes from the SAME brand on the SAME channel AND is a PCM radio, THEN the strongest signal will control your plane.

Are you sure you were shot down? I'm asking, because I lost my plane today as well... total loss. I'm still flying glow stuff -- it was a 50 sized Showtime. My accident sounds kind of like yours and mine wasn't shot down. I took off, got some altitude, then did a quick snap roll and...... nothing, no response at all. Me and a friend standing next to me just watched it go straight in for 2 or 3 seconds at 3/4 throttle.

In looking through the wreckage I'm convinced the battery lead left the RX.

Yours sounds very much like mine? I've never used an optical ignition kill. Would that kill the engine upon the RX losing power? A few people thought I might have been hit as well, but didn't act like it at all (or what I think it would act like). Controls just froze solid.

Sorry for the loss.

dude, that SUCKS! ...really hate to hear this. Even Swanger went on about how good the Panzl flew after you let him twiddle the sticks on it. (serious lack of judgement there, btw... )

gotta look at the silver lining though....now you have all the reasons you need to get the Dalton finished up quick!

...and even though it's off topic, and likely to just stir the pot here...I'm not convinced PCM will NEVER glitch when hit with outside interference. I'm still struggling with some weirdness at our field. My 260, with a Futaba G3 rx most definitely took hits to the ailerons a couple weeks ago....never went into hold or failsafe...and positively glitched. Still don't know what caused it. I'm now seeing similar strangeness on other airframes. Worst part is it's all very intermittent.

Might be sending my TX in for a check-up tomorrow just as a precaution.

My CAP 580 with a PCM was locking out periodically and we found out through the use of a scanner that the Pecan orchard and Copper mines in the area are transmitting spuriously on the RC Channels (mine was channel 44). The well/water pumps are transmitting pump data to a central monitoring station on our channels... I have switched to DX7 with no problems.

Never mind.. I re-read one of your later posts and you commented that some of the surfaces were working upon inspection, so it couldn't have been a loss of power.

I'd go on little hunt. Wouldn't you rather have the guy come UP to you and say I am VERY VERY VERY VERY x5 sorry about what happened and I will try to make it up to you in the best way that I can. (or something like that) Instead of the guy just taking off.

Sorry about the plane.

What RX were you using?? If it was the G3 5014 or 5114 then you will ALSO get lock out if the other Futaba PCM turned on. The 2048 will not recognize the Futaba 1024 as being in "the family". It will act like any other hit and should have given you a failsafe.

If this guy truely knocked your model out of the air, it just goes to show, with redundancy, the lack of respect for safety, and situational awareness at our clubs.

OK... 6 beers and a few pictures later and I'm feeling good.
Its time to get the YAK and the Dalton airborn!!!

BUT.. I have to say, I really am going to miss the Panzl.. BADLY especially since it was really just dialed in... Man... what agood plane. When I find a few extra bucks I will build another. Perhaps a PAK and cover it!!

ANYWAYS...

Shot down or not..
(Judge.. I was using a 9 CH PCM (non-G3 receiver 149? i think - to lazy to go look but it was a dial a channel and I never had a problem with it... even the past two weeks of non stop flying at Nall and then in Findlay!))

As always - Life goes on... as I have said before.. the day ya build them you write off the money...

Anyways.. I know EVERYONE loves some good shots of carnage.. so here ya go.

My kids expressions pretty much sum up my feelings on the matter.
