New guy here, Hello to all!
Been flying electrics and a glow Nextstar for about 1 1/2 years now. Went to a recent show in Homestead Florida and saw the most beautiful planes in the world there!!!! I have to get me one of those. Been researching and have come up with 3 runner ups. GP 1/4 scale patty wagstaff; Composite arf 2.3m; or the to arrive soon aeroworks yak 54 QB. Will consider any other plane at this time that will not take too long to build. some considerations; Composite over stick for first large plane? DA 50 or ZDZ; Glow verses Gas etc... |

3030, First of all WELCOME!! Great questions. The motor selection should be your first step. Going with a 50cc gasser is a great move. The industry is alive with them! You will hear different answers, but the bottom line is you can't go wrong with any of the major brand motors. A bit more expensive than glow initially, but $3 a gallon vs $20 for fuel is a no brainer. 50cc get about 15 minutes on 24 oz.
Airframe selection is pretty easy too. Pick what you like; Extra, Yak, Katana etc. Then do another post about what company guys like the best. You will LOVE the 50cc airplanes! They float and are FAR easier to fly than any glow plane I've had experience with. Glad to have you here and look forward to seeing you keep us in the loop with your progress!! Biff |

That Yak looks like a good candidate. I will be starting on a Lanier Yak in a couple of weeks. I've heard the Aeroworks will be a better flying plane.
There are so many choices out there, and just as many opinions. You need to look at your budget and then at the choices. The Comp. planes are some sweet ones, but a little pricier than their stick built ARF counterparts. Take a look at WildHare, they have some 50cc planes that look great. I have never flown their planes, so I can't personally vouch for them. Good luck in your search, and Welcome to the Giants!!! |

Thanks for the welcome Biff. I really like the composite arf but am concerened about the durability as compared to stick for the first plane. I don't know how to fix fiberglass.

Here is another one to think about Aviation models 50cc edge, Da 50 and 8611s for servos. Brian
