It's funny just how similar the lines on this one are to the Carden. The fuse lengths are identical at 98". Most 35% 260's are noticably shorter.
The wingspans are different by one inch, but the thrust line/cowl and just about everything else seem very close. To all who have seen it fly at the Nall: Does it look like a good 3D airframe? What engine was in it for the demo? The advertised weight on the Hangar 9 seems about a pound or so heavier than the SD.......... It sure is a good looking airplane. ![]() Jim |

![]() At the Nall, he had two of them - one with the Evolution 116 and one with the DA. I say had because someone mentioned on another thread that they saw the 116 version in pieces in his trailer Anyway, there is a video here in the media gallery of one of his demos, and it is with the DA.As for the weight, consider this; the H9 has over 150 more squares of wing area and a couple more inches in span. Also, the advertised weight range considers the use of the evolution 116. With that engine, cannisters, and everyday 100cc radio equipment, I could see hitting the 30 pound mark they advertise. However, Mike's DA powered version has cannisters and three 4800 fromecos and weighs 28 pounds. This came right from a post from Mike on another site. Considering that, 27 pounds, even is TOTALLY doable with stock mufflers and three 2400 Fromecos. I don't know what customers' SD 260's are coming in at, but the site advertises it at 27.5 pounds. Mine will be getting some lightweight treatment with three 1320 lipos (2.1 ounces each), two 6V, 7.5 amp Duralite regs (0.7 ounces each), and a 5.2 volt Duralite regulated switch for the ignition (around an ounce), bringing my total battery weight to around 9 ounces, compared to Mike's 25 ounces ( the 3 fromecos + 3 regs/switches) for a pound in weight savings right there. I am also considering CF tuned pipes for another half pound drop, and CF wingtube, tailwheel, and spinner for yet another 6-8 ounce weight savings. The numbers don't lie, and tell me that I could likely be in the 26 pound range. However, i am assuming a good deal of fudge factor in kit weight variations and that maybe Mike's weight isn't 100% accurate, so I will be happy with anything under 28 pounds, and extatic with 27 pounds. My jaw will simply drop if I hit anything under 27 or over 28, though... can you imagine sub 27 pounds on a piped DA????? |

This will likely be my first plane to have a pilot figure in it, too...I mean it's only 3-4 ounces and is included free! |

aLSO, THE 116 HAD IN COWL CANS ON IT!! They were pretty big, and just needed a little cut out of the front of the cowl. Mike was flying the poo out of that plane at the NAll. low 3D, (harriers, hovers, rollers) and he was doing some nice precision, (full throttle slow rolls , snaps and point rolls) the plane seems to do it all. BUT... I think Mike could probably make a 2x4 fly deciently... he's not short on thumb skill. BUT from what I saw..that plane is sweet, and really complete!!

engine for mine arrives today! Workin' some OT this week to afford those $500 pipes. I'll start picking up the little nit-pickies over the next month and a half as I gather some scratch (been paying a mortgage and rent since I moved to Tucson - OUCH$). I already have the cash for the plane and already have all the major electronics, too.

I am considering the same combo (DA-100 on CF pipes) as you for this plane. There is not a lot of photos to estimate the room to slide 2 CF pipes into the fuse. Have you contacted Mike MC to confirm that? Will the pipe slide under the wing tube? Should we make a new rudder servo plate? In the meantime i have contacted Ed Skorepa and his pipes look very impressive Daniel Hi Daniel, for your application, the header length needs to be 11-12" (the first baffle is set at 18.5" from inlet). You'll be seeing 7200 rpm with Mejzlik 27x10 and around 7000 with PT 27x10 (Mejzlik 26x10 on 9" header - 7600). The exhaust will be very quiet (almost undetectable). All what you'll hear is the noise coming from carburetor, prop and airframe rattling. Regards, Ed Skorepa/EScomposites |
