Bodyworks,
This is directed squarley at you so please dont take it that way.. I would be a large sum of money that if there were two of these planes, set up exactly the same and one just had 1 pound of ballast in it people would have a hard time telling the difference in the two. 1 pound just isnt gonna to matter on a 25-30 pound plane.

Thanks Wayne and dgfick.
Wayne flew the 260 at Hamilton, so he has a good idea how it flys and knows what he is talking about. bodywerks, I dont know for sure, I would "assume" that Mike was figuring the average weight of the plane when he told you 28 pounds....the engine and equipment and gave you a very close "ballpark" weight when he told you 28 pounds. Reason I am saying this is, when we picked it up from Mike and went to Hamilton with it, Will Berninger had a set of digital scales at the field and lots of guys were weighing their planes. We weighed this one and it was 28.9 without fuel. I told Mike what we had done and he said thats great, now he knew exactly to the tee what this plane weighed. Its all going to differ just as Wayne said. There may be a bit more glue in one place in one plane than another, the wood in one may not be cured as much as another and make a small difference, there are lots of variences. scoubidou, here are the pics you asked about, just took them, these are pics of the 260 with the DA 100 with stock mufflers, if you need pics of the inside of the one with the cans, I can get it out and take some pics of it also. As to the specs you gave on the cans you want to use, only thing I know to suggest that would be for sure, look at the specs on the MTW 75 cans and compare the specs. Here are some pics, hope this helps, if there is anything else we can do, give us a shout

You have been quick! I want to use this 35% as my primary IMAC plane and from i've seen whti guys fying Advance, 29 lbs is too heavey for the DA-100 on canisters. Adding 2 tuned pipes and you have more than enough power perform the vertical snaps and other stuff.. I do not want to hijack this tread but i would apreciate if you can measure the following distance: 1) firewall to the receiver plate 2) end of canister box (where we could see 2 big canister holes) to the receiver Daniel |

Yes, a 160. The older 160’s bare weight is only 6-7 ounces more than a DA 100. On standard mufflers the 160 would be equal, if not less weight than a DA 100 or comparable on cans with significantly more power. I fail to see any disadvantage in that! 28-29lb’s, in my opinion, is too much weight for a 100cc of any brand. Sure, a 100 will do everything if you’re at/near sea level, but it will be sluggish. Bring that 28+lb’s to 5500’ where I’m currently flying and it won’t even hover in the summer. |

Wayne, you're right, one pound is not that much difference on a plane this big for most general flying. Last edited by bodywerks; 07-20-2007 at 06:27 PM. |

At or near sea level I would, for the most part, agree with you; however, at 5500’ every ounce counts. At sea level, I didn’t notice a difference between a full and empty tank of both smoke and fuel. At altitude a full or empty tank is the difference between pulling out of a hover or not.. |

That's right, you're doing a stint up in the nosebleed right now - so you know how I feel! (kinda - my flying field was at around 6800 feet). I have to get used to having power again, and lift! Still, the density elevation here in Tucson is higher than 5,000 feet in the dead of Summer...

AHP,
Propping the plane differently can make up anything you feel you'd be lacking in the power department. A 27x10 will pull the plane a lot harder than the 28x10 at any altitude. 25-30 pounds is very much in the range of a DA-100 for any type of flying anywhere in the country.

wing tube, 1 1/2 inches in diameter
35 5/8 long, we have two wing tubes, one is 3/16 shorter than the other one, the 35 5/8 tube is the longest one....possibly some glue or something in the end of the tube in the wing itself and the tube was shortened, I have had to trim a tube before when it was a tad to long. |

Yeah, I don't mind trimming down a tube - I just don't want one that's too short! So 1.5" it is...
Thanks. |

yeppers, would be a lot better to have one a bit to long and put it on and see how much the other wing is out the side of the fuse and cut that much off....had to do that at Clinton last year on a QQ Yak lol.
