Default 28% Wild Hare 300 LX Electric

Put together an electric 28% Wild Hare Extra 300LX a few months back for my son to fly IMAC and after more than a dozen flights, it performs awesome. The plane has a static thrust of 24 lbs. and the AUW is 16 lbs. for a more than sufficient 1.5:1 thrust-to-weight ratio. Also just added a PT carbon fiber prop, landing gear, wing and stab tube to shave a good 1+ lbs. off the airframe. The set-up is:

AXI 5345-16
CC Phoenix 85HV ESC
2- TP 6s 5000 mAh Lipo packs (running 12s)
JR 8611 servos (2 Ailerons, 1 rudder)
Hitec 5985MG servos (2 elevator)
Airwild servo arms
PT Models 23x10 carbon fiber prop
Vortech spinner
TBM CF landing gear and wing tubes
5.4 V regulator and 2s 1350 mAh lipo receiver pack

The system draws about 85 amps at WOT (static) and the WH airframe is very stable with no major adjustments made since the maiden flight. The flight time is a solid 8 minutes of aerobatic flying pulling ~75% of the pack capacity. If I put in a 6000 mAh set of lipo packs, the flight time can increase to 10 minutes but at a penalty of 1 lb. increase in the AUW.

Well the Wild Hare is no more! It crashed at the 2007 Camarillo IMAC. My son was on a downline from a humpty bump and the darn thing never pulled out. Ryan Archer was his caller and he was watching the stick movements and saw nothing that would have caused the crash. After analyzing the wreckage and testing all the receiver and servo connections, we determine that it was the antenna position on the DX7 radio. It was pointed straight out toward the plane. This also may have been made worse by the low voltage (5.4V) regulator we had for the receiver. I have read on numerous threads that people have had lock-outs with the DX7 systems when the antenna is pointed straight at the plane. Hopefully we will rebuild since this was a sweet flying plane and the power set-up was perfectly matched. Right now, we (my son and I) are looking at a 35% 100CC Extra 300 for his IMAC plane.

Man, this hobby is expensive.
