Default Local Gym usage....

Hey guys, I see a ton of videos of guys flying in school gyms and wondered how to go about doing this. It seems that as a local resident we should be able to use them @ our disposal. I tried asking the city and they looked at me like" whats an airplane" or that is was to high a liabilty to hand over the key!!! even after explaining that I was a mature adult and these were only foam electrics I still through them a curve ball. Well anyway are you guys able to fly in your local school gyms? I just want to fly!!! Oh yeh a nearby city said they would rent it out for like $50.00 an hour ***%@%$#.... Thanks in advance...

I sure aint supprised.

Are you talking about a local YMCA or rec center deal. You could just walk in but you know they want you to pay, any gym you gotta pay unless its a school gym and then well..... nobody better be there that using it and they would be like who the heck are you.

I am 16 though and could probably bring my shocky to school any day and fly in the gym and no one would care cuz I attend school, as long as there wasnt a practice of somekind going on.

Funny you mention this, timely as heck. I'm planning on trying the same with my city, they have some sites that would be perfect. Luckily we already have an electric field in town, so they understand slightly more than the average joe how this stuff works. The city manager is my next door neighbor, might have to bring him a 12 pack and have a talk. I'll let you know what happens on my end, hearing this is definately motivation.

One thing I've been wondering about the damage that a nose in foamy can do to the floor of a basketball court... I'm sure it will come up.

Hey Mad Max, This is there biggest concern Im sure, I use prop savers so the only thing to hit that epoxy floor or any other object is my GWS prop and Well you know where this is going( I think Im on my 1,000,000 prop now!!!) I hit stuff in my basement and the only thing besides my prop I damage is maybe drywall nicks. I dont think they have that in a school Gym.... Let me know your results! Thanks,
John

Waz up Yaks are Best and Tony you guys are lucky to have the connections.... I think it may seem a little creepy, to some, for a 34year old walking into a school to get permission to use there Gym man I wish I had a teenager. WAIT I do have a friend that works for the city I will see what he can do.Thanks for all the ideas and Tony tell your Dad to get you up to that school and FLY!!!!

JeeUm I would make any sacrifice to ensure the School property safety and maybe even offer my services( Local contractor and all) if anything does get damaged. I think that we should promote these kind of activities for all the up and coming RC pilots, Our city already built the local kids a Skateboard (playland) to keep them off Church steps... Lets keep working on these Officials and educate them into our world!!! Thanks for all the Replys!!! John

Guys,
I feel that the best way to do this is find out who the science teachers are. Then offer them a day where you and a couple of your friends will come and show the students the airplanes. You will be promoting the sport to kids, Getting usage of the gym once the staff sees how we operate, And if your lucky get a date with the hot single teacher!!! This is just what my ideas have been. Has anyone tryed this yet?? If you don't get in at least your time spent was not just for your benefit. Please post if my theory is put to the test. Pass or fail.
Remember its all about the kids. If you happen to score an awesome gym to fly at and a hottie teacher those things are just a part of helping the kids.

We have a city auditorium here that we have access to two evenings per month. I think we just pay them $75 for the evening. Of course, there are usually 10-15 people there, so it's only $5-7 bucks a person.
