Heya guys, just made it back from Muncie! What a killer event this year! Frank Noll, The AMA, and their crews took the XFC to a completely new level! I hope you guys enjoyed the coverage that we brought back - I'd also like to thank my cohort Mike Martin for helping with the videos and photos. I ended up missing Sunday due to flight scheduling, Mike will be in to answer more questions.
Big thanks to the event organizers for allowing FlyingGiants to be part of the activities! More to come! - stay tuned!

As the last tape is being downloaded off the camera I want to add some to this thread.
On Behalf of Madmax and myself I would like to thank Dan_no for the hospitality, letting us impose on him and his small area of cool air and shade. It also served as a shelter from the storm on Sunday. Thanks man and sorry about your ez-up. On Sunday afternoon we had a small rain shower come through and stop the event for a few minutes. Not long after that a major storm came through and held things up for over an hour. When the storm hit it came in fast and stronger than most were prepared for. There were quite a few ez-ups destroyed and even porta-jons were overturned. When the rain ended there was standing water in many areas. 20 minutes after the rain, the only way to tell it had rained was the rise in humidity. The sun came out and the competition continued to its conclusion.

The time surrounding the competition was filled with other events. The Summer Heat festival was held in conjunction with the XFC. The Summer Heat festival is centered around hot air balloons. Each morning and evening there was a mass balloon launch. On Friday there were 19 balloons that floated off into the sunset. It was a beautiful sight. Saturday night the prevailing winds brought the balloons right over the XFC area. The balloons came right over the pilot area at about 50 feet AGL. Some of the folks were even shouting back and forth.
The Summer Heat festival also had a midway with game booths and carnival rides. It reminded me of a small county fair. Included in the festivities at the Summer Heat was live band on stage in the evenings, beer garden and fireworks on Saturday night. Walking around both events at different times was the fat cat Garfield and even a visit from Sponge Bob.

Hey Wizzard, you and Max are more than welcome, and you all didnt impose at all, was more than glad to have ya and for you all to use my trailer for the FG command post.
I had a blast, still a bit dazed and zapped and trying to get my witts back about me, my head is still spinning lol. Wizz, if it hadnt of been for you, all of us in the trailer woulda been in BIG trouble when the second storm came through, you bravely stood and held the back of the trailer closed so everyone would stay dry even though you got soaked in doing so, there were 8 of us in there including yourself lol, seemed it became a popular place when the storm hit, all i heard was people yelling open up LOL. You had a good idea, next year we will sell tickets for VIP air and storm shelter LOL. I wish I would have gotten a pic of you manning the curtain, and you and Mark Leseberg trying to hold onto my EZ-UP just as the wind picked it up and took it up and over the trailer...all i heard Wizzard say as he turned and looked at me with disbelief on his face say...."well its gone" lol, i said where did it go, you said I dunno, it looked like that house in the Wizzard of Oz that just picked up and whirled off up into the air lol, Im just very thankful that it didnt land or crash into Mark Trents trailer next to us, it was laying awfully close to it when we found it. Next year I will see if I cant have a hinged table on the wall for you all to use for a desk and set ya up right ![]() I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for all that they done for me upon my arrival Thursday morning in helping set up things for me that I wasnt able to do myself and all of you watching after me during my 4 day stay.... First and foremost, Mike McConville...... thank ya Cuz for inviting me to go along with ya to be your pit crew, finally got to see you compete in a big time event, thank ya, will see you Thursday. Cheryl...thanks for directing me in and getting me to where i needed to go, I cant remember your lil blonde female friends name, thank her too for helping me please. Wizz, thanks buddy for being my legs and doing all that you did for me over the course of the weekend, the list is to long to mention all that you did but you know what all of it was. Mark Leseberg, Tony Russo, Mark Trent ( thanks for the t-shirt for Brendan ), Max ( thanks again for dinner Friday evening ), John ( thanks for dinner Saturday evening )...I know im forgetting some people who helped, thank all of you all for everything you did. Again, I had a GREAT time and look forward to next year ! |
