Unlike most of you chaps I am not in love with Composite ARF or my 2.1, I have e-mailed them concerning the incorrect side thrust information in the manual, with no reply, the front of my 2.1 looks as though its already been in an accident and been repaired, the hole in the top of my rudder looks as though they drilled it three times and got it wrong, and having no side thrust on the firewall means that you will be trying to form a wedge on a flat surface, which in the worse case try's to distort the engine crankcase or puts a shear load on the fixing bolts, I am trying to source some 3.5deg wedge washers to get over that one. The so called Phenolic horns are so suspect it would be folly to use them, not only that but Phenolic is a process not a material, they look like old fashioned Bakalite. There are so many areas that they could inprove, they say our feedback is inportant too them and then ignor you. Oh yes one other issue they will not supply me with the DA50 purpose designed manifold without the MTW75 Cannister which I already have.

So far totally unimpressed.

Mike, I just lost my 2.12 10 days ago to engine problems. Boy, when they go in, you don't have concern yourself with rebuilding them :-). Shattered!! I do have the manifold which you're in need of and it can probably be bent back into proper shape. Would it be worth shipping across the pond? You're welcome to it for the shipping costs.

Gary

Thanks for the offer, but because I could not get the manifold I have decieded not to use a DA50 and am going with my favorite engine the MVVS 45 for which I have various manifolds already, changing from a pitts to a cannister netted 1050rpm increase I have that on vidio if you are interested?

Thanks again for the offer.
Mike

PS do tell why did it go in? or is that too enbarasing?

All the bits rattling around in the tailplane are very anoying also.

Hi,
Im new to Flying Giants. Ive ordered this plane and will be my first gasser, and I will be using the DA50R. Not to sure on which servos to use yet, but I have a fair idea. The only thing I'm not to sure about are batteries? Any suggestions? Thanks, Mark

The engine was sagging, probably a tank/fuel line problem. I'd pulled the cowl, richened the engine and relaunched, but this time it sagged right after take off. It finally snapped and went in.

Gary
In full size I always taught:

1. If possible land straight ahead.
2. If not S turn and land straight ahead.
3. Last resort 360deg turn and land straight ahead.

It works with our toys as well, I have never lost a plane through an engine cut, in fact I fly most of my smaller planes untill the fuel runs out, its good practice.

Mike, your pictures are just plain torture, awesome well done and what is it going to take to get a set just like them for mine? Can't wait to see how you put the rest together.

Hi,

What is the length of the standoffs used to mount the DA50 on the 2.12? Also, has anyone measured the thurst angles for the motor. I"d like to contact Forques Research and have them make the standoffs with the thrust angles bulit in.

Any assistance is appreciated.

Regards,

Chuck

Chuck

Page 23 of the manual says they are 2.5" (65mm)
Side thrust should be set at 3.5deg's, do not follow the dimentions in the manual they are WRONG, offset on the firewall should be 49.3mm not the 42 shown in the diagramme on page 22, or the 6mm mentioned on page 23.

The 42mm shown in the pic is only 3mm offset (78mm/2=39-42=3 where 78mm is the c/c of the mount.

To achive 3.5deg offset, taking the prop driver to be 170mm in front of the firewall,
X=sin3.5 x 170 = 10.3mm, so 39mm + 10.3 = 49.3mm.

I have contacted Composite ARF twice about this and have been ignored. Hope this helps you not to make the same mistake that others have.

Incidently if you are having the stand offs made two need to be 4.8mm longer than the other two and ground at a 3.5deg angle on one end only, get yourself four 3.5deg penny washers as well to go on the other side of the firewall, alternativly get eight 3.5deg penny washers and just put four on one side of the firewall and four on the other with unangled standoffs, if you go this way don't forgett to take into account the thickness of the washers when deceiding on the length of the standoffs.

Hope this helps.

Mike

Glad to be of help, also the difference in length of the stand offs neccesary to get up thrust would be:

0.5deg=1.48mm, so 1.5mm near enough
0.75deg=2.22mm , so 2.25mm near enough.
