Ok my friend Carl came over a little while ago to look over the Extra with me and we were able to determin that both elevator stabs need replacement
and the bottom lip that the aileron slides over is seperating from the wing mold. and you can see where it was damaged at the factory as they tried to repair it. I was however able to fix the anti-rotation pin issue on the other wing panel. The rudder problem will actualy be a quick easy fix.

Hi Gary I had the same problem with the bolt, we redrilled the hole in the header on an angle (which oversized it slightly then we were able to get it through. Had to do that one up first then put the front one in. I like your idea with the threaded rod though I think that would would really well too.

Cheers

Hi One Wing, No probs with the Hitec in the rudder tray for sure (thats what I'm running) I used a JR servo tray in the wings so if you use a Hitec equivilant I think you would have plenty of room to fit them.
The elevator ones should be an easy fit as you cut the composite yourself - the plywood reinforcing may need to be eased slightly although I dont see any problems doing that. As to which servos are better I cant comment except to say both are widely used and I have only heard first hand one complaint of the JR gear train becoming sloppy (in a 40% model with 150+ flights) and one total failure of a 5955. So all in all both seem pretty reliable.

It's good see everyone is having good luck with their Extra's
Mine on the other hand cant even be built You guys would'nt beleive the problems in my kit!!!!!! one of stabs has multiple cracks and fractures in the hinge bevels the elevators have horrible binding from the crooked install of the robart hinges.
the bottom lip on the left wing panel is damaged and seperating and looks like it was cut by someone who had about a case of beer and the aileron binds when deflecting it down over the wing skin. And they forgot to drill the hole for rudder attatchment wire all the way through the rudder. And to top it off my sales rep is in Australia and wont be back to the states till after the DAC.

Scotty,

Thanks for the advice on the servos. I think I will go the same way as you and put the Hitec on the rudder for the extra torque it gives and put whatever (JR/Hitec) is available at best price on the elevators and ailerons.
The photos of your Extra are great. If it flies as good as it looks I'll be happy. Hope that Snap Roll's problems are an isolated case of a lemon.

Not that I really like either colour scheme they have for the Extra 2.1 but it saves time not having to paint it.

Assembled the wings, rudder and the rear stabs just to see what it looked like.
Must say the model looks much better in real life than the pics shown on the CompArf website.

Noticed that the carbon spar for the rear stabs is way too long by at least 20mm, one of the stabs wouldnt butt up against the fuselage.
I will have to cut it down to size not that much of a problem.
Hi Marpman I had the same problem with the Stab tube - go gently cutting it it is easy to fray. The only issue I have with mine ( and I hope its a one off) is the perspex canopy. It was way too narrow I used a heat gun as suggested even left a couple of encyclopedias on it overnight to try to flatten it out but without any real luck. This is the only aspect of mine that I am unhappy with and will show it to my Rep later in the week.

Sorry to hear you got a "Friday Arvo" plane I hope your rep is as good as mine I cant speak highly enough of Howie down here he has had great advice and an amazing amount of patience for all the dumb questions I've asked!. I hope yours get sorted quickly Shawn just one other thing to check is whether your canopy perspex can be made to fit the frame without distorting it - this is a big issue with mine.

cheers

Snap, My last post may have appeared a little unsympathetic, apologies if it did. I would be pretty pissed off if my C-Arf was so far below expectations. Sincerly hope your rep does the right thing to rectify the faults.

No prob Onewinglow But yeah I am pretty ticked off thinking I was getting a world class arf and I get the left over scraps for my hard earned $700.00 And the kicker is, this is my first ever Comp-Arf purchase. I planned on getting a 100cc Yak later on, now I'm kind of scared this could happen again, you know what I mean? I dont know maybe if Comp-Arf makes this right and insures better Q.C. I will consider another Comp-Arf purchase in the furture. But for now I'm a bit leary of them.
I even e-mailed my rep and have had no replies. I had to call other reps and see what I can do about this.

Shawn,

You shouldn't be to hasty with Comp-Arf. I have 3 of them and all are in good quality. It just goes to show that not off manufacturing is perfect, this is why I never buy the first run of aircraft. If your having trouble with Reps you guys should try Ray Labonte, he is a great guy and true to his word. If you explain your situation to him he may be able to help.

catman,
It shouldnt matter weather its the first run or the 50th run there is no way in h??? that a plane with this many issues from the factory should have even been permitted to pass Q.C. and go out to the market!!!!!! I'm not saying it was all of them maybe mine was just one of those lemons that slipped through the cracks so to speak.
And now I have a plane that is w/ shipping $700.00 worth of useless composite!!! IT'S NOT EVEN WORTH TRYING TO BUILD IT!!!!! AND I havent been able to get any answers from my "REP" yet. I've e-mailed the Comp-Arf tech support, I have called and e-mailed other "REPS"and so far NO HELP!!!!!!
This was my FIRST Comp-Arf purchase and after seeing other pilots with other Comp-Arf products and seeing how nice they were as well as reading many build threads and watching pilots Like Jason Shulman, Chip Hyde and Fraser Briggs fly Comp-Arf I figured WOW Comp-Arf has some great products! I decided to invest MY MONEY into something I thought was going to be first class out of the box.
I'm a firm believer that first impressions are everything and so far my first impression
is not so great right now. Put yourself in my shoes, It's discouraging. I'm sure you would feel the same way. So excuse me for being HASTY!!! I hope I have made my point!!!

Shawn

Shawn,

I can see your point, and yes I would be very upset myself. All I am trying to say, is give them a chance to make it right with you. I am not sure how your Rep is, but mine would do everything he could to make me happy with the product. As with every manufacture though, it is getting the product to the public. The manufacture is relying on their employees to perform their job correctly. You must have got one of the planes built on a day during their sports playoff season. Not sure if your a sports fan or not but if you are how well do you do your job during playoffs? (Hope you understand my point)

I hope that everything works out for you. If this is your first Comp-Arf, once you get it in the air I am sure you will be pleased. If you take your time a build it correctly, there isn't a plane that will out do it (in my opinion). Hopefully someday they will make this plane in the Futaba scheme. If so I will definitely own one myself.
