I'm losing my mind here. Someone must have a trick that I don't know about. I'm putting together a GP Cap 580 Chapman, and I'll be damned if I can get the cowl on. I've got a 3w 106 in it, and no matter how I try to get it to fit, it won't go over the plugs and caps with the mufflers on. Putting it on at about a 45deg angle with plugs and caps works fine, but not with the mufflers, and it slides right on without the plugs and caps, but with the mufflers. I'm starting to get frustrated here, I've seen one where the builder split the cowl, that'd be cool, but I'd rather keep it simple.

Alright. I had the same problem. I've got a 3W 106 QS. At first I snapped on the plug caps after the cowl was on. Now though, I leave one muffler off until the cowl is on. I have enough room to bolt it on through the cowl. I turn the cowl up about 45 degrees to get over the plug caps, then push it all the way on. I place the muffler in the cowl and bolt it on. I usually leave the left muffler till last.
Hope this helps!

Thanks, I enlarged the hole in the bottom so I can get at the muffler bolts on one side. It's not the 30 seconds on and off solution I wanted, but short of cutting the cowl up and making it ugly, I don't think one of those solutions exist.
Another dumb question, I assume you guys made baffles, right? The manual doesn't mention it, but I've always done it in the past, and figure I'd do it on this as well. |

Actually mine has no baffling. Seems to stay cool enough without it, but I'd be interested to see if anyone else did. I've really only seen baffling on 150cc and up size planes, then again there isnt much giant scale around here.

mine has no baffling and it dosen't get to hot.if it does it is not real hard to extend the inlet holes back to the lugs

Huh, I'll give it a go without the baffling, then. If it doesn't need baffling, then mine is pretty much ready to go! Thanks guys.

Hi Guys!
I am planning to buy the same aircraft and I don't want to open a brand new thread, so I think here will be good place to discuss about the electronics, engine and power distribution systems. ![]() At first I think using 4 x Hitec 5955TG's for wings and 2 x Hitec 5955TG's for elevator will be enough for ultimate acrobatics. About the rudder I read that 1xJR711 = 2x5955TG. So I think that using 1 servo JR711 on rudder will be more than enough for this plane. Looked from other side, this will make the plane lighter and I'll save some money though. Basing on the Smart-fly's info , I hope this combination of equalizer, regulator, power distribution is suitable, what do you think? Flight Pack 2 (25%-35%): Includes Purchased Individually Package Price
$234.85 $209.95 Regarding the batteries I'll possible use Li-Po packs. I hope 2 x 3000 mah. is enough and 1 x NiMH 2000 mah for ignition. As far as I know there is something called JR Matchbox, which is used for synchronization of both servos on each wing. Should I buy such thing too, or it can go without it? What are the possible solutions. For the CAP 580, a good solution is maybe a 3W 106cc + stock mufflers. I saw some videos and the aircraft was real monster with this engine. ![]() Best regards, hoping to continue the thread! |

Just use a single 5955tg on each aileron in the bay that's closest to the center (IIRC it's the inner bay). With the strength of the 5955TG and the stiffness of the aileron, there is no need for 2 per aileron, if you don't open the covering for the second one, you'll never know it was there.

Hi Eury!
Thanks for the answer! Well I think about your proposal. In this case I'll save money, but I think only single Hitec 5955TG's won't be enough for this plane. If using 1 x servo per wing, maybe a JR 8711 is better then. I'll think about it, but still think that using dual servo is more safer and reliable!

There are plenty of these planes flying around on single aileron servos (mine included, with 5955tg). The plane came out before there were these super torque servos on the market, that's why there are 4 pockets in there. Also, double servos on the ailerons doesn't gain you much if any reliability.
Generally when servos fail, they lock hard in place, so your second servo will either destroy the aileron, or be stalling out itself. Trust me, 1 good servo is fine, and a 5955tg is perfect in that application. |

Hi Eury again!
Well maybe you are right! I'll probably save serious money. Well you say that it's better to put the servo in the hole nearer to the wingtip? This is very interesting. In this case, I'll use 1 x Hitec 5955TG per wing, 1 x JR8711 on rudder and 2 x Hitec 5955TG's on elevator. Well this is very good. I'll buy probably a Smart-fly powersystem Pro for 8 channel I think. This will be really good configuration. Basing on what I am seeing, I'll have 3 spare channels. Maybe I'll put a smoke system in the plane. Eury do you have any video with your plane? I am very curious to see it flying! ![]() Best regards!
