Talk with the guys at East RC. They have a paint shop on the Scootworks side and they have helped modelers with painting needs at times.
Ive been clicking around Airborne Models web-site the last few minutes. I looked at the manuals for the Sky Raider Mach2. Holy Cow! This model will go together QUICK!!! Complete hardware kit including tank, clevises, horns, and all. It even comes with an aluminum plate to help line up the engine and provided spinner! It only requires 4 servos, and they carry a complete line of spare parts if needed.

So whos in? So far, I know Robert, Josh and myself are ordering one. Others at the field said they would like to try. I talked with Dave from East RC and he says he's all set up with Airborn now. He would like to order the first batch of planes on Tuesday. Lets get a list going now. Remember, there are two versions available with schemes, and four versions in plain color. Red, Yellow, orange, white. Also, those wanting a Thunder Tiger engine, they should be in very soon. Dave said he would order several of those as well.

Larry>>> Red Scheme Raider & TT Pro 40 Eng

Robert>> Green Scheme Raider & TT Pro 40 Eng

Josh >>> White Raider & TT Pro 40 Eng

Bill Fillmore>>> Yellow Raider Airframe only

Blair Price>>> Red Raider & TT Pro 40 Eng

Mark Lofgren>>> White Raider & TT Pro 40 Eng

Joe Rafalowski>> White Raider & TT Pro 40 Eng

Dustin Hedrick>> White Raider Airframe Only

Marshal Sanderson Yellow Raider & TT Pro 40 Eng

Ken wade.. Orange Raider and TT 40 Eng.

Ken Keesler>> White Raider & TT Pro 40 Eng
Hey folks. Looks like there is a Change of plans ordering the Raider MACH 2s. For all of you wanting to get in on the fun, and those who had already placed your name on the order list with ERC, you'll need to Order the plane and motor yourself. Below you will find links to the best sources and price for both plane and motor. One of the vendors is located here in NC. Steegall Hobbies has plenty in stock with several colors available. They also include extra covering to do your graphics etc. This may be our best source.
If you want the printed color scheme on your Raider Mach2, you may need to get it from Airborne Models themselves in Cal. Most all of you had originally requested solid color airframes. This would be the better choice by far.

Best price on the Thunder Tiger 40s is with Tower Hobbies. They still have them in stock, so dont wait too long to get your order in. These are popular motors, and as we said before, the prefered motor if you should choose to compete at a sanctioned race later in the year.

I certainly hope all of you that were on the order list these past weeks will get your personal orders in with one of these two suppliers soon. I talked with Airborne Models today, and he stated they have plenty of them in stock, and can ship immediately.
Joe Rafalowski says Stegall Hobbies has plenty in stock as well, and already has his on the way now. We should have a few of these in the air very soon.

Sorry for the delay guys.......
I hope you get your orders in soon cuz we're ready to race boys!!!

We all know that Larry is a legendary engine tuner and no doubt he'll have that little TT engine running like it was supercharged.

In order to have a chance to stay close to Larry (or even on the same lap) here is some info on how to set up and break in these motors. This was published by the NMPRA and has some important steps to take prior to running the engine, even for sport flying. RacingTheThunderTiger.pdf

The only step that would be debatable at this time is running the idle adjustment screw all the way out, basically destroying the idle. Some clubs require the engine to idle low enough to be able to take off from a standing start. A ruling from the rules committee (Larry) should clear up this point.

Hey Joe,
Thanks for the info on the Thunder Tiger motors. Actually, this is something ALL of you should take a few moments to read. It is really good info, and applies to many engines. Its all very simple things we can all do to break our motors correctly, and get the most out of them. And no,,,,, its not hop'n it up or modifications a few of us would be doing!!!

By the way. I just got off the phone with Don Stegall of "Stegall Hobbies". ORDER NOW!!!!They have 4 white and 3 red airframes left. All out of yellow and orange. They'll have more in next week. He said these things sale fast!
Exactly $100 has it shipped to your door! If you cant wait that long, just drop Airborne Models a call. They are the main distributor and have plenty.
I spent nearly an hour talking with the guy at Stegalls Hobbies. He's the guy that got club 40 racing started, and will be the contributing columnist for AMAs pylon racing articles. I was really surprised to hear how simple this style of racingf is, and how competitive we all can be. No fancy motor tricks, but break in proceedures are really important. ( read Joe's link ) Check out your Oct 2009 issue of Model Aviation. There is a great article he wrote on club 40 racing .
They only run 3 planes per heat, and 4 planes in the big event. Limited line judges, and a caller. The course is only 400 long, so its pretty easy to see where you are in reference to the pylons.
They also have a NOVICE club 40 class that they run basic "Bushed Engines" like the OS LA46. Planes are about 20 mph slower.

Get ready RDRC,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, The fun is about to begin! We have the BARKS SWAP meet to attend this weekend, so it'll be next weekend before we have our racers out there.

Oh yeah,,,,,,,,,, Stegall Hobbies will be at BARKS also. Said he'd have any remaining Raiders there with him to sell.

We're not going to beat anybody when they're down. It's not the "RDRC" way.

But a little honesty among friends would have gone a very long way here......and we'd be racing right now!
