OK, if Jim can do it, then maybe I can do it (but probably not as good as Jim). Plus with these prices, I just can't resist:

Sky Raider Mach II - $89.99
http://www.airborne-models.com/html/...?ProductID=147

SK 50A Glow - $59.77
http://www.kangkeusa.com/indexo.htm

Servos and battery - Still need to decide

I've never built a racer before. Are these racers supposed to be built light or does it matter? Do we need metal gears in the servos? I am thinking about using one of these two servo choices, both are pretty light, I am hoping they are strong enough, they are mini-sized, and come in both nylon and metal gears setups. Any comments or suggestions or recommendations?

Hitec HS-225BB Mighty Mini BB - 0.95 oz. weight, 56 oz. torque, 0.14 sec speed, nylon gears

Hitec HS-225MG Mighty Mini BB MG - 1.09 oz. weight, 54.2 oz. torque, 0.14 sec speed, metal gears

Joe,

These are just sport planes and aren't that fast (that's the point of this class of racing - it's not intimidating) so no special servos are needed. I'd suspect that 50-60 oz-in. of torque would be fine.

As far as the engine is concerned, we hoped that those who don't already have a 40-class motor would use a Thunder Tiger Pro 40 (see Tower Hobbies) so that everyone would be equal in performance. And it's widely used in Club40 racing events in the state if you become inclined to join in for some of those. I'd shy away from buying a 0.50 ci engine since you would automatically have more displacement than everyone else.

See the rules we are patterning RDRC racing after here

Robert;

Thanks for the link to the rules. It looks like the Thunder Tiger 40 is the way to go.

One of my business contracts involves the design, fabrication, and flight testing of a big RC model of a Navy sub-tracking aircraft. In support of that effort, I'm building everything in Solidworks (3D CAD).

I thought you guys would like to see the Jetcat P-200 model that I just finished. Here's a rendering.

Now on to the other "1000" parts I need to draw!

Robert,

Now if we can just get someone to build it for use for under $100.00 that would be nice

I think several of us learned from the Jet Joes that "cheap" turbines don't quite work out. But I know what you mean!

You bet, Dave! I'll post things along the way as the model progresses (or at least what my client allows).
