Next I installed the main landing gear. I dont have a pic, but its the basic set-up you see on most ARFS. You just install two hold down plates into the gear block. Next I installed the wheels and collars. Be sure and grind a flat spot on teh axle where the outter collar goes. This provides a better seat for the set screw.
Then I mounted the control horns and installed the push rods. Im using all the kit supplied hardware on my Raider.

OK,,,,,, I glue the two wing halfs together,,,and here ya go!!!! This bad boy is ready for radio and engine. All this in TWO HOURS!!!
I'll take more pics during the radio/engine install. This is a very basic ARF, and it goes together very easily. No,,,its not going to win any beauty contest, but its going to be a blast flying.

Like I was aaying, I spent part of the afternoon at Mr Vess's shop. While he set up his big Extra for the IMAC season ( yes,he's going straight line'n) I worked on getting the first of many racers going. With only a few basic tools and a little epoxy, I was soon holding a complete airframe ready for radio and engine.
First pic shows the basics. Few airplane parts and the power plant. In this case, the Thunder Tiger Pro 40.

Pic 2 shows the servo's I'll be using. I went with the JR 821 Digitals. These servos are great sport servos. They have good centering, plenty of torque, and theyre only $29! I only needed three of them because Im using a mid size on throtle.

Pic 3 Im showing you the new Spektrum AR5000 2.4 receiver. Unlike most Spek receivers, the AR5000 does not use a satelite receiver, yet its still a full range unit. This is my first time using this receiver and I figured the Raider would be a good chance to try it out.

Pic 4 This will be on the business end of my racer. Shown without the carb. this is the Thunder Tiger Pro 40. This motor is the most popular choice of modelers already racing the Raiders.
Funny thing... Last week I looked in the box my Spektrum DX7 came in, and found that I still had all the servos (DS821's) , battery, switch harness, etc. I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW I STILL HAD THEM!!. So I'm all set!
Can you say CRS? LOL

"Super Floyd" flies again!
Cleveland acquired my old combat plane (it's actually a Battle Floyd) at the BARKS Swap Meet this past Saturday and I kept telling him "this thing actually flies great". Well, judging from the look on his face, I think he now knows that first hand. Have fun, Cleve!
