I have always had the deepest respect for Jim and the word that always came to my mind when I was around him was "gentleman". He was just so pleasant to be around and made everyone feel so comfortable. And Larry is right. This hobby and the folks of RDRC meant alot to Jim. In fact, you may all recall that one of the first things he wanted to do when he returned from Duke after his first treatment series was come to the field and fly. And fly he did!

I remember one little funny thing that happened at that time, too. Jim was out there on the flightline in his comfy chair flying his "Radian" like he loved to do and I was over near my tent messing with something. Jim calmly said "Robert, do you see my plane"? I looked at him and then glanced in the same direction he was looking as if to find him way up high and trying to impress me. Well, I looked and said "I don't see it, Jim" and he replied, "neither do I"! Apparently, he had taken his eyes off of it for a second to look at something else and when he looked back, it was gone! The breeze had moved it from the spot where he expected it to be. Well, we both then scanned the skies and couldn't see it for what seemed like minutes (but was probably seconds). Then someone who was flying yelled "it's low over the trees at the center of the field". At that point, I saw it and Jim had me fly it back to us. Then he took command, landed, and we both let out our laughs. That's the last of MANY fond memories I have of our Jim Charbonneau. I'll miss you, buddy. But I know you are in a good place!

Wow, that is really sad news. I was really hoping he was going to kick this thing.

Considering the fact Jim first came to us during our annual fall Giant Scale Meet, we feel it appropriate that we name our Fall meet in Jim's honor. We have not decided on the exact wording yet. That would be a topic to address at our next meeting.
And I think it would be quite appropriate to shut down the flightline at noon and fly one of his planes.

Bob,

This will happen with a doubt in my mind.

WOW, this bites. Makes me tear up thinking about Jim and the love he had for the hobby and what we do with the Fly For Tots.
I agree 100% with Larry on the Naming the giant scale event and the brick. Let me know if you need a donation for the brick.

Words can not express the sincere loss of such a great person. Jim will be greatly missed from everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Ken
