Check this out!!

I have a new project in the works, It will be a long build, but hopefully next year.
Somewhere in the 40% range. Maybe Wayne will let me fly it there next year.

Anybody want to buy a warbird?

Art was a real performer ,thats for sure. A friend in S.C. use to own own one of his old chipmunks and I don't remember whether it was the retract version or not. The fixed gear version is prettier,to me,but then i like things "normal" ! LWP

Getting goose bumps...I saw Art Scholl do that every year at the Reno Air races in the early 80s.

Just ran the numbers,

At 40%: 148" wingspan 120" in length.

Should be big enough,

I used to linve near LA way back when I was a kid. It had to be in the early 70's. My first memory of Art Scholl was when we went to the grand opening event at the "Orange County International Dragway". He was a feature act and actually flew his Chipmunk from the dragstrip to do his aerobatic routine. I then saw him several times over the years after that. I recall he had a dog that flew with him alot that was named "Aileron". I believe he died in a Pitts while recording some flight footage in a spin for the movie "Top Gun".

You're right Robert,he did die while taping a sequence for that movie. I thoght that he was flying the fixed gear Chipmunk, but you are probably right on the Pitts. I don't think they ever recovered the remains ? Good question,I will do some history research. Hugh Oldham, our airshow team announcer knows all the details on the incident so I will pick his brain also. I think the retract version is in the EAA museum ,if my feeble mind serves me right. Oh well,my mind doesn't owe it to me to serve right as much as I stirred it up in the past years ! Hope you guys have a great racing weekend . LWP

Wayne, he was flying a Pitts with a camera mounted on a wing strut. He was doing a flat spin, which as you would know, would have been a major yawn of a maneuver for Art. He never recovered the spin, and it's thought the camera gear caused enough of an imbalance in rotational momentum to prevent recovery.

I still remember watching you fly your Acro Pro in the early 80's even though I was only a few yrs. old at the time.
