Is this a 'fly anything' event? If so, I may stop by. I have to drop Matt off somewhere and might be able to stop by on the way back.

It was really neat watching this competition. Some guys could get a good 200' launch and go right into thermals. Looked like fun, too.

Dick Proseus, the event CD, has been a member of the Wilson club from back in the 70s, when I had just joined the club and was learning to fly. He told me that Wilson is having another glider contest in a few weeks (October, I think) which is going to be the event used as the US team selection for the world championship in 2011. I might have to to sneak out again - and take my reclining lawn chair.

I really wanted to check this out as well... looks and sounds like a lot of fun and would be a complete 180 degree direction change...

One of the guys there has been out to our field several times - Josh knows his name. I think he may be a club member. Josh, do you know if he is?
Jesper Frickman (was at the FFT last year doing some DLG. Greg Short is a member there of DESS and I think still an RDRC member also.

That's the field off Blue Ridge, by the Armory. In the first picture you'll see George Abbot donning the "official" RDRC club bowling shirt (I still have mine, don't think it fits though) with Bill Hubbard taxing under the watchful eye of Marshal Sanderson in his blue jacket.

McCleans is off Hwy 97 right there in Zebulon. If you were headed toward East RC from 64, you turn right at the light where they just built the new CVS drug store. In fact,m there are two drug stores at that light. Follow that down a few blocks, and McCleans is located behind the Advance Uto.
Dave Hockaday could give better directions thoughj. Maybe an address also.
I say we meet around 6:30 or 7:00. We can take the back roads to the field from Z Town.

Yes, he's in most of the photos. Running in the second (Wade Franklin is the flagman), holding in the fourth (Don Suggs and son sitting and watching), instructing in five and six...

Yeah, after I asked the question, I realized all the pics were labeled "Billx.jpg".
