One of the first fun-fly events I attended was at the old Selma field, and Ken Boone was there with the coat hanger plane. He also had a flying dog-house, the first I ever saw. He also wore a pith helmet with a turtle shell on the back and either a cox .010 or .020 on the front (I think it was a .020). This was around '75 or '76.

Ok, guys, don't say that David Hayes is old. I am older by a year and a half. Started flying control line in '69 (on my own, did not know anyone that flew) and then started RC in '73, shortly after I found out that the Wilson club had a new field close to my house. I think the Wilson club started in '71 or '72. One of the founding members, Charles Adkins, is still flying with the club. The present club field is named after him. The first midair in the Wilson club history was between the two of us, father's day '73.

Yup,,,but youre STILL older!!!!
Yes it was a 61. Veco I think it was. I want to say it was a Kraft radio. Not sure. I remember the servos were yellowish. If memory serves me right, they were those older slide arm type instead of the wheel type of today/ Thats was a while back,,,,,,,,,,, Many brain cells gone now!
It was indeed 8ft in span. Ken had these two foam cores he used. I dont think he ever covered or colored them. They were bright white! lol
Ive heard that plane still exist. It would be a hoot to have it on display at FFT. Anyone know if Ken,,,,I mean "Mr. Boone" is still around here? Saw him at FFT two years ago. Heck,,,maybe he'd sell it to me and I could fly it! Would be kinda cool to own the plane that started my interest in RC.

Kraft radio sounds right. The servos you mention sound like the KPS-11 servos that had the option of rotary or linear output, depending on which top you installed on the case. The first radio I owned was a Kraft 5ch Sport Series with KPS-11 servos. Mine were the three wire servos (bridged output transistors) while the older ones were 4 wire servos. Useless trivia for anyone but us old farts.

I know larry mentioned something like 6:30... seems really early since it will only be 1/2 hour drive to the field from Zebulon if we meet there how about 7 ?

Or can do 7:30 at the crack in Wilson.
