I am having an issue where my canopy is vibrating badly in flight. Not the hatch to the fuse but the actual canopy itself. It is a longer canopy and the sides are allowed to flex quite a bit. It only vibrates at certain throttle settings but when it does vibrate it is rather loud compared to the noise level of the airplane/engine combo.
Question is has anyone seen or done themselves some bracing inside the canopy to reduce vibration of the canopy itself? I'm thinking of glueing some CF rods from side to side inside the canopy and reducing the unsupported span by half. Maybe that will eliminate the vibration. Any other thoughts??? How about reducing the vibration.

Try painting the inside of the canopy with a coat of Clear Polyurethane.
BTW,.....What plane and motor?

if you are still alittle rich on lowend this will cause a rough idle and shake things up pretty good in the mid to low throttle settings

I used one of the Carbon-fiber/Balsa forms from the rudder kit in my Comp-ARF installed the same way you are describing. Just bridged the canopy sides right behind the gas tank to help strengthen the canaopy. I don't have a vibration issue, but I thought this appeared to be a weak point - Also, Kelder, from DOD, did a fantastic build thread on the Comp-ARF Giles and shows a similar install of a balsa bridge in the same location so I think this may be a common practice. Should work well for you - at least a good start.
Sorry about the pic detail - I couldn't get it to uplaod any bigger. If you look close behind the gas tank in the canopy, you can see the bridge I installed. Just a dab of JB-Weld on each side .... |

Install some soft mounts on the canopy or leave it off.

I recommend flying without the canopy just to be sure that's where the noise is coming from

It's fixed. I taped a balsa stick between the two sides effectively cutting the unsupported span in half. I flew it today and about 95% of the vibration and noise is gone. This is temporary of course. A final fix is in the works for after the NATS.
