Default Aeroworks Yak 54 .90-1.20 72"

I am considering this modle. I don't see any info on here yet. Is anyone building or flying one yet? I have a Saito 150 looking for a home. This might just be the ticket for me.

Sounds pretty good for that size airplane. If you want some insane power go with the YS. That might perform a little better with the fuel pump.

Hi,

There's a thread on RCU.
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4099610/tm.htm

I'm going with a Saito 1.80, 5985s all around, Futaba receiver, and a Slimline side mounted muffler.

your 150 should fly it well, if you have it use it!

Ys engines are not more powerful because of a fuel pump. They are more powerful because they are supercharged. 4-stroke only fire every other revolution. But the YS takes an air/fuel mixture into the crank case on both the exhaust stroke and the compression stroke. The down cycle of the piston pushes those air charges into the intake/valve cover(on some engines) resulting in a charged mixture that is almost twice the ambient atmospheric pressure - basically like having 10-14 pounds of boost...
Anyway, I have one of these Yaks as an electric aircraft. It flies really well, high alpha is very stable and it torquerolls practically hands-off. The 150 is being used by several people with success.

Body... looking hard at this airframe. What electric set-up do you have and what are your thoughts on it with a brillelli 26?

I was considering this plane for a YS 110 I have that is looking for a home. I am concerned that it may not be powerfil enough (seems like most are using Saito 150 or 180) but I have read some reports of a Saito 125 working well, which should be about the same or less power than the YS 110. Anybody know how this plane will do on the 110?

The YS will pull it around, but it will not have the unlimited 3D power of the 1.50/1.80. There's a review on RCU and the reviewer used a Saito 1.25. He said power was marginal. If you going to fly 3D and want lots of power go with the 1.80 or the YS 1.40. I have mine with the 1.80 and I have unlimited vertical at around 11 lbs when fueled.. If you're just going to fly sport or IMAC the go with a O.S. 1.20, Saito 1.25, or YS 110 and the Yak will fly well, but you won't have the 1/3 throttle hover.

The plane is awesome! No questions asked!!!

This plane has room for a diet. If you can get it to about 9.25 pounds with the 110, I think you'd be OK. But if you want ballistic, consider a Neu 1512/3D/6.7, 9S 4300 Neuenergy lipo, and Xoar 18X12 or APC 18X10 prop. I ended up at 10.25 pounds and about 2200 watts - vertical from take-off with the APC was accelerated. The 18X12 didn't pull the plane as fast on the vertical, but it pulled the plane out of a hover as if the plane wasn't even there! I could literally do 3D snaps on the upline out of a hover! The APC sucked for hover pullout.

Speaking of which body.... got a good recommendation for a 50cc electric motor to go in an sd 30% yak? I would prefer 10s operation if possible...

Yep, too expensive, which is why I sold it, lol! I sold the Yak rtf and had almost all the money I needed to buy my 42% 260! I like electric, but I'm done with big stuff until it becomes more affordable (which looks like it ain't gonna happen).

I've been out of the electric loop too long to give you the latest and greatest, but I would prefer a geared inrunner for its light weight and efficiency. I am sure neumotors has something that would work.
Also take a look at e-flightline.com. I think they did a 30% SD Yak.
If you decide to go outrunner, look at Hacker's A60, or I hear that Hyperion has a 50cc powerplant equivelant that works well, too. You may need to consider a 12S setup, though - remember, amps are BAD, voltage is where it's at!
