6600 on a 28-10, wouldn't someone stop and say "I wonder if this can be correct".

Depends on your level of experience but yes, that does seam to be a crazy #.

I'm looking at this motor for my Carden 260 35% project. I'm hopeful that the airplane will hit 26 pounds, its 28 built sock with a DA 100. This is going to be my first gas airplane and my IMAC rig for next year. Still not sure if this is the best choice but I'm keeping my eyes open.

Actual observed weight differences. All weights use the same digital scale which weighs to 1/4 oz.

DA-85 bare including prop washer and bolts, ad spark plug. 4 lb. 5 oz. or 69 oz.

DA-100 same condition 5 lb. 14 oz. or 94 oz.

Difference is 25 oz.

DA85 canister setup including header, coupler, clamps and ks95 muffler. 21 oz.

DA-100 canister setup with 2 headers, 2 couplers, 4 clamps and 2 KS86-4 mufflers 26 oz.

Difference 5 oz.

Total flying weight difference is 29 oz. or 1 lb. 13 oz.

Cost difference.

DA100 with canister setup $1550

DA85 with canister setup $1050

$500 difference in cost, 1 3/4+ pound difference in weight, neglible difference in power and smoothness.

The 85 that was turning a 28x10 Mej @ 6600 was here in Australia, the owner Ian Howard from DA Australia. He was running a BMB Tuned pipe to get the extra RPM. The numbers where checked by several different tach's.

I spoke to howie before I purchased my 85 and he said I would get approx 6200rpm on a 27x10TH Mej depending on what exhaust I used.

Crikey, that thing sure likes the pipe! Which one is he using?

Thanks Tom, I don't think I can give up on saving $500 on my setup for little or no loss in W/lb.

I bought the High volume JTEC I hope it works or I'll have to go to a can.
The KS95 can only adds about 6 ounces over a slimline pitts, and should add a few R's, too. I almost went with a pitts muffler, then I wised up

I seem to remember the same, but it was a piped 85 and in Austrailia - maybe that have some killer fuel additives!
FWIW, my 100 on ES pipes turns a mezj 27X10 at 6684 RPM, on gallon #4, and freshly switched over to Bel Ray. Also FWIW, it was tached by a DA rep using a Fromeco TNC tach when we got these #'s.

Jim,

Great pictures of the JTec large volume muffler! Thanks. I think that right now I am leaning toward the MTW T110 canister.

It's not my plane (belonged to Ian Howard) but I think it was around the 25lbs mark, its a comp-arf 2.6m Extra 260. The 85 and pipe combo made it ballistic.

I'm putting an 85 in a 35% WH Sukhoi, I'm aiming for 24lbs so it should fly just fine. I'm going to use a KS95 canister on mine. Should have it flying early in the new year.

It should work -I flew the old Wild Hare 35% Extra with the early ZDZ80 and a full pipe - worked very well and that was almost 27 lbs .

Been following this thread in the hope of learning which exhaust system I want to go with. Seems like the Jtec pitts & the Slimline pitts are pretty loud. Also the KS95 cannister is loud. So does anyone know what kind of R's & db's you get with the MTW 110 cannister ?

The last time I spoke with DA (can't remember who I spoke with) they seemed to indicate that to really get down to IMAC sound levels, one might need to not only utilize a cannister, but a 3-bladed prop.

Has anyone tried this combination? If so, are there any db numbers available?
