Good choice. What canister are you going to use?

DA recommends the 110 that they sell, also 0 drop flex header, I will have to fiqure out how to mount the support to carry the canister in the tunnel with out impeading air flow as this is my first canister install.

Things are moving along, my first "can" is in and complete, I hope the lack of noise is worth the extra effort. The throttle servo and the chock servo are the next and last challenge, those throttle and chock placings on the carb are not exactly the easiest place to work. The next time I will plan these moves before the engine is bolted on. Battery paks should arrive today, pick up 4-40 rod and servo connecters with some ashless oil and gas in town today, finish this baby up tonight and see where the battery paks are in the morning. She may get maidened tomorrow. The S-D 33% Extra went together easy(this is my first 33%), had to do surgery on the landing gear, the holes were off. The "can" was a challenge for me(first time doing one), after winging it and talking with Bill at TBM it is in. Now the trick is to see if it works and will stay in. the prebuilt tunnel in the model makes the canister install fairly easy, once you figure out how and where to put the canister support bracket you have it licked. Anyway I am starting to ramble, let's see what tomorrow brings.

Hi Barry,

What header are you using? "O" drop or what? Did the 110 fit easealy into the canister tunnel provided?

I have the SD 33% Yak as an ARC so I can modify things if I have to.

To make the canister and header match I cut one ring of the 110 can and then cut the header pipe to match up, the plastic joiner/connector was also shortened up to make it all fit. Also, without standoffs, I have less than a 1/2" of clearance between the spinner ring and the cowel. I did not measure the actual space but it is not much.

Hi,
We checked the rpm on my 85 today. 6660 rpm running a 27A Vess prop, Lawnboy 32:1 ash-less motor oil and Slimline Pitts style muffler. I've run about 2 gallons of the 32:1 gas through my 85 now. I think we're about 900 feet above sea level.
I'm very pleased.
Steve

sarawnty that is good scoop to provide to us. I have not tried mine on a 27A Vess; however, I do have one here at the house. I am on my 2nd gallon also, at present I am running a 26A and getting 6810 hot (after landing on that prop) This Da seems to be the real deal lol. I am running mine on a muffler Al provided me from JTEC.

I should know your altitude at Toronto, I used to fly into the Island several times a year with a float plane out of the North, but I do not remember. I think your 900' is pretty close, I would think fall is in full swing with the colours, i would think the Muskokas are past their prime fall colours at this time. I have 3 sisters that live in Toronto.

The Extra with the DA-85 in the S-D 33% Extra was maidened yesterday, huge amount of power, unlimited vertical, nice low idle even on 32-1 oil and a TBM 26x10, I can not imagine a Vess 27A. The can is nice and quiet, you can hear the prop working.

Here's a couple pictures of the DA-85 installed on my Wildhare Extra 260, I am using the Slimline Pitts muffler and PT-26x10 carbon fiber prop, I will be doing initial engine runs tomorrow morning and will report results tomorrow.

Did initial engine run today, 6690 on a PT 26x10 prop, and 1500 idle (did not try for any lower). Hopefully it will run just as good in the air. At first glance it is a very strong good running engine.

I must be running really rich, ofter the first gallon on a TBM26x10 it is turning 6150 after a flight. That is a long way from 6660rpm! What is the setting on the high speed jet on these 85's that are turning 6660?

Is the low numbers possibly due to your exhaust setup? My needles are both at approximately 1.25 turns out. I am using the Slimline Pitts muffler #2185.

I am running the 110 canister, front exhaust, I would not think that would make a 500 rpm difference. It sure is a lot quieter, I can hear the prop.
