Default E-flite's EDGE 540 BP 3D ARF

i dont think this counts as a foamy but its in that size and price range.

ok so here is the setup i want:

edge540 BP 3D ARF
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdId=EFL2600

Park 400 Brushless Outrunner Motor, 920Kv
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...rodId=EFLM1305

20-Amp Brushless ESC (V2)
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...rodId=EFLA311B

11 x 3.8 SF prop
TP 910mah 3S lipo

now my question is what servos, i know alot of people are using HS-55's in their foamies but something tells me that this might require a little more power.

I do not have one but looking at the weight of it and size I would think the HS-55's would be ok or the 65's.

I'd go with the 65s, but I am sure the 55s will work just fine.

I had heard about the new 35" E-Flite Edge 540 and finally got the chance to fly one last weekend... I was really impressed with the way it flew, so I decided to pick one up and thrash it a bit...

The one I flew last weekend was setup with an E-Flite 480, which was stoopid power on the 540... It was a little nose-heavy and didn't have enough throw on the tail, but it flew very well...

I picked one up yesterday afternoon at my LHS and 3 hours later it was RTF... The ARF was 79.99, which seems to be the price from most sources... The parts in the kit were all usable and complete... The only thing that is questionable is the LG... They are extremely soft and bend easily... Maybe that's not a bad thing though... I used everything that came in the box... Assembly is straight forward with the components of your choice... The assembly manual is complete enough where a total putz could put one together... I geared it up with the following:

KA20-22L outrunner from Texas-Hobbies
APC 11X3.8 SloFly prop
3 cell 1300mah Lipo
Thunderbird (Castle) 36 amp ESC
GWS 6 channel rx
Hitec HS-65HB servos
AUW 19.2 oz w/battery

During assembly you need to be careful when you CA the elevator on... The elevator itself is beveled, but not the TE of the horizontal stab... If you push things together tight and CA you won't have enough throw...

I flew it this morning for the first time... It flies really well... It's way nose-heavy with the battery in front of the LE of the wing... I moved the battery under the wing right behind the gear and it flies much, much better... Little or no coupling in KE... It could use a bit larger rudder... I'm going to glue about 3/8" of additional balsa on the TE of the rudder for more authority...

Here are a few photos...

I'm putting one together myself:

S75's all around
Eflite 40amp ESC
Eflite 450 outrunner
1320 Thunderpower packs

Used all the stock stuff out of the kit...

It builds easy, but WOW, I don't know how you guys can put one of these together in 4 hours!! I've got about 7 or 8 hours in mine between assembly and radio programing. 4 hours is incredibly fast or maybe I'm just really slow! I made some goofs on mine including stabbing a #11 blade through the bottom of the wing an inch long... DOH! Nothing that some clear monokote and an Eflite sticker couldn't fix.

This will be my first electric and I'm really looking forward to flying it tomorrow.

well now that i know that the HS-55's work fine. im gonna go with those instead(im on a budget) so here is the setup.

edge540 BP 3D ARF
Park 400 Brushless Outrunner
20-Amp Brushless ESC (V2)
11 x 3.8 SF prop
TP 910mah 3S lipo
3x HS-55 servos
extra long 3D servo arms
now all this for about 250.00

so that is much better than 300.00

Got mine out for 5 flights today.... fun fun FUN! LOVE IT! It's a great plane and I already know when I dork it in I'll immediately pick up another one. The landing gear is the only real negative I have so far. Hopefully someone will come up with some carbon gear or something stronger and light in aluminum. You have to literally land it like a butterfly (that soft) otherwise the gear bends. Two of my landings were not hard AT ALL and I was having to bend the gear back into place while the other 3 landings were extremely light (no problems).

I'm really glad I went with the 450 and 40amp ESC -- I can understand if you're on a budget, but this combo has a nice pull out where I think you'd be fighting it a bit more. If you've got some skills on the sticks it shouldn't be a problem, but personally, I need that extra umph to get me out of trouble, especially down low.

Either way, have fun with it! It's a blast.

well i dont have alot of time so im gonna go with the 450 motor, 20A ESC, and 1320mah lipo.

well since i replaced the HS65's with 55's, im able to afford the motor and battery so im gonna go bigger with more power.

thanks

Good job!

Horizon has been out of that motor for a couple weeks now. Both my LHS were out too, so I had to drive about an hour south to pick one up from another shop. Awesome little motor though... I can see why they are so popular.

Everyone at the field really likes the plane -- it's a great flyer. I need to work on a mix for knife edge, but that's it. Hardly any wing rock either inverted or upright and once you get a good CG point it just floats around.

Let us know once you get it together!
