Those of you that have received a new composite airframe, what to you do to inspect the quality of the build? I have read the instructions on damage from shipping and thats not what I am talking about.
Thanks Banker |

I think you need to be more specific as to what you are looking for. Everyone knows that there are usually small flaws in the paint due to the paint process and the complexity of some of the schemes. All of the comps I've had have been very solid in all structural areas and I have never seen one come apart unless it was somethings that someone did to the plane with set-up or build. You should definatly check the seams, the hinge areas, motor dome area and wing attachments

OK, I had a wing come apart and it appears that there was no glue along that part of the spar. My rep says I shoud have inspected it. I do not think you can even see that part of the wing especially thru the hole where the ganged servos go.
I am not trying to start an issue but I am confused as to the level of inspection everyone goes to prior to flyng. Last edited by Banker; 07-02-2007 at 11:28 AM. |

Inspecting a new model is one thing, but something that serious is not something I would expect you to have to look for and discover. If there really was no adhesive in that area that is a pretty serious manufacturing flaw.
When I receive a new model I give it a good looking over for shipping damage and stuff that might have come loose from transit or handling. Checking the spar bond is not on the checklist... Craig.

If this is the "Banker" in Dallas I am acquainted with he is as trustworthy and honest as anyone in the RC community. He is actually a banker and obviously an adult, I think the profile is some humor

As a current contemplator of an MX-2 purchase, I'm quite curious how your claim will pan out. Please keep this thread updated with anything new and relevant.

I thought it was funny when I did it but who knew the issues it created. Thanks for the kind comments.
My rep just said it would be unusual for the factory to replace the plane once its had been flown. I now have the pics that show no glue on the spar or the carbon fiber tape along the wing. My rep is a nice guy and I have purchased 3 planes through him. I just believe that inspecting the wing spar for glue is well beyond reasonable. Last edited by Banker; 07-02-2007 at 06:56 PM. |

Let us know what comes of this. It is worriesome that a company willing to take near $3000 for an airframe would not stand behind manufacturers defects. There are just certainthings that cannot be checked on an ARF and you have to go on faith that the manufacturer did a good job.
Good luck! Dan |
