Yep, I checked the prop again yesterday.. its fine. its a CF spinner. I haven't balanced it, but at 2000 RPM, it shouldn't be a problem.

well, just got the word that our 2 ultimates will now not be here until the 1st week of sept or so! i am VERY anxious! i do hope to still have it ready for atl huckfest...

reyn, i have a 170 and a new 157. i need one for my ulti and one for my dalton ML ed. 42% 300. i was reallly wanting to put my 170 in the dalton but if it is going to shake like you say, i'd rather have it in the ulti ARF! i think the 157 on tuned cans will be just about as powerful as the 170 on stock muffs. i guess the 157 will go in the dalton. let me know if you disagree....

I'm going to do some low end tuning tomorrow and see if things improve. I think the shaking is exaggerated by the Ultimate because the motor box is about a foot long. Its good, thick plywood, but the length of it must let a little shaking feel like a lot. Plus, the way the top wings come together, they rattle at idle anyway.

The Ultimate is going to be a heavier plane, and the extra horsepower defintely comes in handy. There's a lot of drag on it. With the 170, you can send it into vertical snaps for as long as you want. I don't know if the 157 would do that.

Also, if you plan on putting cans in the Ultimate, you're going to have to cut some sizeable holes in the firewall. there's plenty of room in the fuse, but I'd hate to hack through the firewall. I know Horizon has a thread on how to do it... but I don't think it was made for that.

nah,,, i'll just put the 170 in the ulti! reg muffs will be fine. my dalto will only weigh about 37lbs with the 157. that on cans will be just fine! thanks for the input and see you in atl. (hopefully with the ulty done and ready to maiden!)

One thing for sure with the 170 and regular mufflers.... you'll never have to worry about somebody else's noise drowning out yours!

Well, I spent about an hour today trying to get the low-end dialed in on the 170. As it turns out, the low end on this motor runs and transitions best when its about 2 3/4 turns out, and the high idle is about 2 turns out. I NEVER would have guess that settings this rich would be workable.

The muffler downspouts are pretty wet, but I'll just run it like this for a few more gallons before messing with it anymore. Its just a little shaky at idle. I didn't have the wings on, so the vibrations were a little exaggerated, but managable.

I used two 35 pound steel fishing leaders. Work O.K. for me.

I used a piece of string across the length of the wing, measured 9 3/4 back from the leading edge, then made sure that the string was the same distance back from both wingtips... marked that vertical line on the side of the wing. Then I got a friend, and we lifted the plane with one finger each... the wing held up fine.. I was a little suprized, but it worked fine.

I've got about 3 gallons through mine now, the 3W 170 is smoothing out and really starting to be a great motor. This is a fun plane to fly, and very stable. Today, we had gusts to probably 20 MPH or so, and landings were absolutely effortless. Amazing.

Has anybody locked in knife edge mixing on the Ultimate? How much elevator and aileron did you dial in?.... Just looking for starting points.
